Fan-Favorite Shōgun Star Coyly Teases Potential Season 2 Return

A fan-favorite Shōgun star has coyly teased their potential return in season 2 as development on the upcoming continuation of the FX series continues. Shōgun season 2 is currently in development, with the series set to continue the story of Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) after he takes on the titular role as leader of Japan. The lead actor is confirmed to be returning for the series, which will depict an original story after season 1 adapted James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name. However, other returning stars have yet to be confirmed.

Speaking with Collider, however, Moeka Hoshi hinted that she might be coming back as Usami Fuji in Shōgun season 2. The actor revealed that she’s been speaking with series co-creator Justin Marks about her future on the show, indicating a very real possibility that Fuji will return in the upcoming season. However, she doesn’t concretely confirm if she’ll be coming back. Check out what Hoshi had to say below:

It’s a secret, but I am kind of talking to Justin Marks a little bit.

What Fuji’s Return Would Mean For Shōgun Season 2

The Historical Drama Could Present A New Aspect Of Feudal Japan

Shōgun season 1 ended with Fuji deciding to become a nun, finishing her story arc and setting her on a very different path from both Toranaga and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis). In the meantime, the main characters are going to be dealing with unifying Japan under one leader, something that will likely keep her separate from them for quite some time. However, season 2 could still showcase her life as a nun, following her continued story by broadening the series’ focus on different elements of the time period.

It would also allow the show to start focusing on different elements of feudal Japan beyond what’s associated with the lives of Regents. Because the characters in Shōgun have a variety of attributes that make them unique, it would make sense for season 2 to delve deeper into their wants and desires. Highlighting Fuji’s life as a nun would help expand the story in a distinct way while maintaining focus on the characters from season 1, offering a balance between different elements of feudal Japan.

Fuji is a strong and resilient character, something that would make her life as a nun an interesting journey as she makes her massive life change. Following her story in Shōgun season 2 would be an interesting way to compare and contrast her new position in the world from everything she’d experienced during season 1. It’s a story that could be weaved into the upcoming episodes, ensuring all the character stories from the original will continue.

Shōgun season 3 has also been greenlit.
