Suits LA has been lambasted by audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The new NBC show, which stars Stephen Amell as federal prosecutor turned entertainment lawyer Ted Black, is a spinoff from the nine-season USA Network legal drama Suits, which became a record-breaking smash hit on streaming after it hit Netflix in 2023. However, Suits LA reviews have been mixed to negative, earning the show a dismal score of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes aggregated from 29 different critics’ reviews, including the one from ScreenRant‘s Ana Dumaraog, who says that it is “devoid of the best things that made Suits a fan favorite.”
Rotten Tomatoes has now received enough user ratings for the spinoff show to calculate an official score. While this could fluctuate as more reviews are added, Suits LA now has an official Popcornmeter score of 32% aggregated from more than 50 different reviews. In addition to the score being 2% lower than the Tomatometer rating from critics, the average user rating is considerably lower. While critics gave the show an average score of 5.1 out of 10, audiences have so far given it an average of 2.1 out of 5, which converts to a score of 4.2 out of 10.
What This Means For Suits LA
It’s The Lowest-Rated Of The Entire Franchise
This Rotten Tomatoes audience score for the new spinoff is even lower than that of the original Suits spinoff Pearson, which only lasted for one season in 2019 but earned a Popcornmeter score of 79%. In fact, this 32% debut marks the only Rotten Popcornmeter score the franchise has ever earned, as the flagship show remained in a firmly Fresh range between 73% and 94% across all nine seasons. However, it is important to note that these audience reactions are limited to the contents of Suits LA episode 1, which is the only episode that has aired at the time of writing. Critics, who were able to see the first three episodes of the show’s debut season, did largely agree that the show steadily improved over the course of those episodes. If the season continues with that trajectory, its audience score could eventually improve, though given its current low score, it is entirely possible that it may never pass the 60% Fresh threshold.
Our Take On The Suits LA Audience Score
Its Future Is Up In The Air
It remains to be seen if this audience reaction to the Suits LA debut results in low viewership as the series continues. While it is not necessarily a good sign that viewers will return for episode 2, the score only represents the opinions of less than 100 viewers, so the spinoff could still have a chance to become a hit in the wake of the streaming success of the flagship series. This means that a possible season 2 and beyond are still not entirely out of the question.
Suits LA airs on NBC on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
