Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 has started filming as the first behind-the-scenes photo of the upcoming episodes of the show has been released. Season 4 was confirmed in April 2024, during production of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, which is set to air at some point later this year. While a release date has yet to be confirmed for season 3, its early renewal for even more episodes emphasizes how the show has become a mainstay for the sprawling sci-fi franchise.
Now, the official Star Trek Instagram account has released a behind-the-scenes image of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 as filming for the upcoming episodes begins. The photo sees Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura on the set of the USS Enterprise, with Mount holding a clapboard. The trio look into the camera while a display on a screen behind them showcases the Enterprise. Check out the image below:
What Strange New Worlds’ BTS Photo Means For Season 4
Core Characters Will Maintain Their Roles
The behind-the-scenes photo of season 4 confirms the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds won’t be changing much after season 3. Captain Pike, Spock, and Uhura are some of the show’s most central characters, something that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon. While season 3’s release window has yet to be confirmed, both upcoming installments will be 10 episodes long. This newest image promises its lead characters will remain the focus of these new journeys, even though it’s unclear what they’ll be.

With season 4 going into production before season 3 has even come out, it seems Paramount is focusing on expanding the Star Trek franchise with familiar series. This will also include the upcoming Starfleet Academy series, which takes place in the 32nd century as explored in Star Trek: Discovery. With Strange New Worlds season 4 starting filming already, it looks like a multi-year plan is in place for the sci-fi series, which will no doubt continue expanding as its status as a Paramount+ tentpole continues.
Our Take On Strange New Worlds Season 4’s Filming Start
High Expectations For The Star Trek Show
After the negative reviews for Star Trek: Section 31 earlier this year, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has to impress if it’s to justify getting renewed for season 4 so early. With episodes already going into production, that expectation grows even higher, with the series having to maintain its high quality, even without knowing what the response to season 3 will be. Luckily, the show’s positive reception so far means its early production is likely justified, and will continue its strong streak of recapturing the franchise’s classic era.
