Suits star Gabriel Macht explains how Suits LA is in great hands, and praises the passing of the torch to the next generation. Macht rose to prominence with a co-starring role in USA Network’s legal drama Suits, in which he played the role of successful and charismatic attorney Harvey Specter. The show became a big success for the network, eventually leading to the Stephen Amell-fronted spinoff Suits LA. Macht will make a guest appearance on the show, reprising his role as Harvey opposite Amell’s Ted Black.
In an interview with Bleeding Cool, Macht shared his enjoyment in making a guest appearance on Suits LA, and how he believed it to represent a symbolic passing of the torch. He spoke about the great team involved in the development of the spinoff show, and how he was delighted that Suits LA was in great hands moving forward. Check out Macht’s comments below:
I definitely see this as a passing of the baton to Stephen [Amell] and the rest of the cast and crew in this ‘Suits LA’ universe. I was excited to come back and revisit the world of Suits, and I had a great time with the ensemble of players that are working on that show…and now, moving forward, I’m really focused on my work with Bear Fight and the direction we are taking the brand. Suits LA is in great hands, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the new team shapes the series.
What This Means For Suits LA Moving Forward
Suits LA Has Room To Improve
Suits LA has debuted to poor reviews, and there are several reasons that contributed to this, but Macht’s comments suggest there is a belief things will pick up, and the ship will be steadied. Spinoffs can often be challenging, especially when moving to a brand-new city, and this is one of several challenges that Suits LA has had to contend with. The fact that original creator and showrunner Aaron Korsh is helming the spinoff should provide tonal consistency, as well as help develop character arcs and crossover storylines long-term.
Suits LA currently has a 41% on Rotten Tomatoes.
There is also a good chance that there are other Suits characters who will appear to help Ted, thus providing opportunities to help anchor the spinoff to its sister show, as well as allowing it to thrive and develop as its own entity. Macht speaks highly of the Suits LA cast and crew, and his successful role on the original show gives him a unique perspective on this topic. His positivity could be warranted if the show’s ratings pick up. Perhaps the episodes where Harvey appears will prove to be the best within Suits LA.
Our Take On Suits LA’s Long-Term Success Chances
It Might Need A Little More Help To Grab Viewer Attention
Suits LA might be off to a rocky start, but it needs to establish its own world without an over-reliance on what has come before. If Korsh can find some of the magic that made the original show work so well, and emphasize the acting abilities of Amell, there is a good chance that ratings will pick up, and the show will become a success. While it’s very unlikely that it will run as long as its predecessor, if Suits LA season 2 can get a renewal, things will look promising for the long-term future of the franchise.
