Jenna Ortega Didn’t Bring Up Wednesday’s Viral Lady Gaga Dance With Singer During Season 2’s Filming

While Lady Gaga may be starring alongside Jenna Ortega in Wednesday season 2, the star did not discuss the surprising dance trend that a viral scene remixed with the singer’s music inspired in 2022. The Tim Burton-produced Addams Family-inspired show starred Ortega as the family’s daughter, with her arrival at a hidden boarding school seeing her become enveloped in a sinister mystery. Alongside Ortega, Wednesday‘s cast also features Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Luis Guzman, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will return alongside the star in season 2, which is set to release later in 2025.

As Ortega sat down with Indiewire, she reflected on the filming of Wednesday season 2 and working alongside Gaga. While the star was quick to praise Gaga’s contributions as well as her own personal excitement when working alongside the singer, Ortega admitted that the subject of Wednesday’s viral dance trend did not come up. The trend, which saw a clip where Wednesday danced during a school dance remixed with Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” took over social media in 2022, though Ortega was so focused on the production that it didn’t come to mind. Check out Ortega’s full response below:

It’s the best. She’s the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much… No, actually we didn’t. I don’t think we did. We should have.

Actually, I can’t remember. Maybe I just saw an interview clip of her talking about it, because I feel like I’m fabricating this story in my head, but I think honestly on that day, we all were just so lucky that she came to do the show that we kept it as normal as we could.

Season 2 May Not Feature A Viral Dance Number

While the clip was featured in early marketing for Wednesday season 1, it didn’t truly go viral until the full season released in 2022. It’s in episode 4, “Woe What A Night”, where Wednesday steals the show at the Rave’N Dance with a unique routine to The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck”. Following the episode’s release, viewers were quick to replicate the routine and set it to other tracks, with “Bloody Mary” emerging as the most prominent remix. Despite its popularity online, however, Ortega was mixed towards the scene’s popularity.

Full Breakdown Of Jenna Ortega’s Dance In Wednesday

Jenna Ortega embodied Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s Wednesday, much thanks to her iconic dance at the Rave’N – here’s a full breakdown of the dance.

While the star herself developed the routine through careful planning, inspiration from past adaptations, and some improvisation, Ortega has since admitted how she was not pleased by her performance and had been left wondering how she could rework it if she had the chance to revisit it. As such, while it’s Ortega’s dance moves are what led to the viral trend, it is uncertain whether season 2 will attempt to one-up season 1’s viral moment with its own dance scene, with Ortega’s comment making it clear that it hadn’t been a consideration.

Our Thoughts On Lady Gaga’s Wednesday Season 2 Presence

The Star Is Only One Of Season 2’s Major Additions

Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) descends the staircase at Nevermore in a black dress in Wednesday.

Much of Wednesday season 2 is still being kept under tight-wraps, even as the first few teasers have hinted at a complicated reunion between Wednesday and Tyler (Doolan). Not only is Gaga’s role undisclosed, but nothing is known about the roles other guest stars Christopher Lloyd, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Mataraxxo, and Joonas Suotamo play in the series. Nevertheless, while season 1’s viral moment may not have been brought up on set, it is clear Gaga’s role will be a highlight of the next chapter when it arrives in 2025.
