Warner Bros. executive Channing Dungey offers a casting update for Harry Potter‘s TV reboot about Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Voldemort’s roles. Casting for the upcoming Harry Potter TV show is already underway, with John Lithgow confirmed as Dumbledore, while Paapa Essiedu is being eyed for Professor Snape. It was also reported that Nick Frost will be portraying Hagrid, but the actor has clarified that his potential role remains unconfirmed as of writing. With the show still in development, more casting news is destined to arrive soon.
Speaking with Deadline, Dungey explained that casting for Harry, Hermione, and Ron in the Harry Potter TV show is still being conducted. However, the executive did reveal they are “weighing a couple of different options” for Voldemort right now, but want to ensure they pick the right actor before announcing anything. However, no names were confirmed about anyone currently being considered for any of the four roles. Check out what Dungey had to say below:
We are not yet ready to announce the kids, we’re still working our way through that process. I have to give you credit, you at Deadline are consistently breaking the news even when we’re not ready, so I feel like you are very up to speed on all things Potter in that way.
You’re missing [Voldemort] in your deck, because we are still weighing a couple of different options there, so we’re not quite ready there yet. That’s an important role to get right.
What Dungey’s Statement Means For Harry Potter’s Development
When Will More Cast Members Be Announced?
As of writing, it’s unclear when there will be more news about who is playing major characters in the TV show. The cast of Harry Potter‘s movies is considered iconic, deeply associated with J.K. Rowling’s book series because of how well the characters jumped from the page to the big screen. This makes it all the more important for HBO and Warner Bros. to cast actors who can do justice to the series, given the inevitable comparisons that are going to happen between the TV series and the movies.

Voldemort could have used a useful charm to protect the Horcruxes and Harry never would have found them, but this would have required actual trust.
Even so, it appears Warner Bros. already has some strong ideas about who they want involved in the series, inching ever closer to a final decision. Voldemort fan casting favors Cillian Murphy as the dark wizard, but it’s unclear if he’s one of the names currently being considered. The main trio, on the other hand, seem like they’ll take quite a bit more time to cast, especially since the children who play them will be growing up onscreen over the course of a decade. The careful casting of the show also highlights the intricacy of the series’ development.
