MobLand Season 2 Plans Gets Intriguing Response From Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy provides an interesting response to the prospect of MobLand season 2. The star-studded Paramount+ with Showtime series tells the story of two powerful crime families who both vie for control in a dispute that has the potential to take down either or both of their empires. Hardy’s Harry Da Souza is in the crossfire of these groups, acting as a fixer. In addition to Hardy, MobLand features a leading cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, and Mandeep Dhillon. The series debuted on March 30 and is airing episodes weekly through June 2.

Per Collider, Hardy discusses the future of MobLand and where it could go plot-wise. The actor confirmed that “the plan is definitely to see more seasons.” He teased that future installments of the series could broaden the scope, saying the series could “become international.” Hardy noted that “there are international elements to organized crime” and the complex crime plots in the series “fits into a world stage.” Check out the full quote from Hardy below:

The plan is definitely to see more seasons. The question is: Does it become international? There are international elements to organized crime, which are touched on in season one. The control of drugs and ammunition and weapons and people and all kinds of things that go through Europe and from Africa through to South America, Pakistan… and the variable commodities that move around Europe.

There are families that are involved in each European country that are vying for power to have that status to be able to move these kinds of commodities through. And who polices that and how that fits into a world stage.

What This Means For The Future Of MobLand

The Series Has A More Limited Geographical Scope For Now

As of now, the series is pretty focused geographically. The series takes place in London and the Cotswolds, a more bucolic and rural section of England. One of the main crime families, the Harrigans, is of Irish descent, giving the characters broader backgrounds. Even with this slight variety in location, MobLand is centered around England in terms of the actual events, and the characters themselves are also from the United Kingdom region. As such, expanding globally would be a big change for future iterations of MobLand.

Episode 3 of MobLand got off to an explosive start, while revelations about the bubbling conflict between the Harrigans and Stevensons came to light.

Realizing this plot relies on the series being renewed for season 2. The series has promising beginnings, as it has a 79% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review of MobLand episode 3, ScreenRant‘s Zachary Moser called the show an “overcomplicated series,” giving the episode a tepid 6 out of 10. Even with some lackluster responses, MobLand‘s viewership numbers have been positive thus far. The premiere episode had the biggest global draw for any Paramount+ premiere, bringing in 2.2 million viewers on the first day of its release. These numbers point in the direction of a MobLand season 2 renewal.

Our Take On Hardy’s MobLand Season 2 Idea

It Could Make For An Even More Exciting Cast

Hardy’s proposal for MobLand season 2 would certainly be a great way for the show to broaden its horizons. While the series already boasts an impressive cast, a global takeover would also provide the series the opportunity to expand its cast to include notable guest stars or recurring characters. Whether this comes to fruition will still hinge upon whether MobLand maintains high enough ratings to be brought back for another installment.
