movie. As the Multiverse Saga comes to a close, the latest MCU releases are focusing on the heroes who will play central roles in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This includes several superhero teams, such as The New Avengers, The Fantastic Four, and Sam Wilson’s Avengers.

However, this is an unusual position compared to what was seen at the end of the Infinity Saga. While multiple teams existed, such as The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, the heroes were able to come together with relatively little friction. The Avengers were used to working together, and aligning themselves with other heroes made sense to everyone involved. However, Avengers: Doomsday could see a clash that is more reminiscent of Captain America: Civil War.

Sam Wilson also doesn’t have superpowers, but, as the new Captain America, it’s very likely he can get a couple of other supers to join his team. But more than that, Sam takes his role as Captain America seriously. He fought hard to get the recognition he deserved, and ensure people could look up to him in a way similar to how they looked up to Steve Rogers. And part of that role is to lead, which is why Sam will definitely fight to ensure he keeps up the legacy, and leads his Avengers forward.

Interestingly, this contention between two groups of heroes who could both lay claim to the name Avengers has been seen in the MCU before. In Captain America: Civil War, the heroes had a major fallout when the issue of the Sokovia Accords was raised, which caused some heroes to actively resist, and others to fall in line with the new government sanctions. And leading either side, Captain America stood with the rebel heroes who didn’t sign, and Iron Man stood with those who signed.

And now, the brothers return to helm Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Considering their history in the MCU, and the way they have handled superhero team-ups and conflicts, it makes sense for the Russo’s to tackle the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga. However, the way the two Avengers teams have been positioned in opposing positions seems a little too perfect to not have this moment serve as a callback to what happened in Civil War. It doesn’t have to be the foundation of Avengers: Doomsday, but the movie could easily include a scene that pays tribute to the epic fallout seen in Captain America: Civil War.
