Kevin Bacon’s 83% RT Show Canceled At Prime Video After 1 Season

Kevin Bacon is an iconic star who recently helmed the intriguing new series The Bondsman, which didn’t turn out to be TV’s new big fantasy hit. Bacon is known for his action and horror roles, of course alongside the seminal coming-of-age musical Footloose. Having been active since the late ’70s, his expansive career now comprises hundreds of movies and TV shows. Bacon has also worked as a director and producer, and his upcoming projects include Family Movie and The Best You Can.

Bacon was the star and an executive producer of The Bondsman, the 2025 Amazon Prime Video series also starring Jennifer Nettles, Beth Grant, and Jolene Purdy. The Bondsman follows bounty hunter Hub Halloran, who is brought back from the dead to hunt demons on behalf of the devil. However, despite its decent 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Bondsman will apparently not be going beyond its initial eight episodes.

THR Announces The Bondsman’s End

The Bondsman comes across as a unique tribute to Kevin Bacon’s past work in the horror and action genres, with some thrilling jump scares and dark humor. However, the show received uneven reviews, with THR‘s Angie Chen saying: “Outside of Bacon’s performance, the horror dramedy is more of a mixed bag — fitfully amusing but rarely as funny or heartfelt or surprising as it wants to be, and never as memorable as its attention-grabbing premise might lead you to hope.” The show also ranked lower on some streaming charts before dropping out after the first week.

Despite its merits, The Bondsman was unlikely to be the next smash-hit streaming phenomenon and has been canceled after season 1, per The Hollywood Reporter. Objectively, its decent reviews and the star power of Kevin Bacon would earn it a second season, but shows that have performed much better have also been canceled in this economy. While the huge cliffhanger of The Bondsman season 1’s ending set up the next outing, we will now likely never see it.

Our Take On The Bondsman’s Cancelation

Bacon’s Dark Comedy Fantasy Show Could Have Been Great

It’s unfortunate but really not surprising that The Bondsman didn’t see a second season, and perhaps Bacon’s next project will have more success. Fantasy shows especially are the victims of early cancelations these days due to their typically bigger budgets, and when other shows sitting at 90% or higher on RT and at the top of streaming charts for weeks were also axed, Prime Video predictably didn’t feel that it could justify the expenses of another season. As always, this is a potential travesty because The Bondsman could have become better if it had been given time to grow.
