Godzilla x Kong Sequel Casts Fear The Walking Dead Star In Undisclosed Role

The Godzilla x Kong

sequel has added another new star to its impressive cast with a Fear the Walking Dead alum. Following the success of Adam Wingard’s movie-monster mashup Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, the two titular Titans returned for a team-up film last year in the form of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It’s now been confirmed that another installment in Legendary’s MonsterVerse is on the way from director Grant Sputore, with the Godzilla x Kong sequel’s cast already reported to include Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, and Kaitlyn Dever, among others.

Deadline now reports that Alycia Debnam-Carey has also joined the Godzilla x Kong sequel. No details have been revealed about her new character just yet, however, and it’s unclear how she will fit into the story. Though no official logline for the film has been revealed, Deadline writes that the movie “features several new human characters alongside Titans Godzilla and Kong, as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”

Many questions remain about the follow-up to The New Empire, but the cast already features an impressive array of actors. In addition to Debnam-Carey, Dever, Modine, and Stevens, Jack O’Connell and Delroy Lindo are also reported to appear. It currently remains unclear whether other Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire cast members Rebecca Hall (Dr. Ilene Andrews), Kaylee Hottle (Jia), and Bryan Tyree Henry (Bernie Hayes) will return for the new installment.

A detail about Godzilla’s design in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire makes it all the more likely that Godzilla will transform yet again in the sequel.

As for Debnam-Carey, she will be best known to many audiences for her role as Alicia Clark across all eight seasons of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. The Godzilla x Kong sequel will mark a reunion for her and Dever, who just recently starred together in Apple Cider Vinegar for Netflix. Debnam-Carey also appeared in other shows like The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023) and The 100 (2014 – 2020), as well as It’s What’s Inside (2024), a Netflix horror comedy movie from last year.

The Next Film Could Lay The Groundwork For Future Movies

Just in terms of its cast, the follow-up to The New Empire sounds exciting. With only one returning cast member back from the previous film (so far), the movie could be wiping the slate clean in many ways with its human characters, starting fresh with a new group who could return to play larger roles in subsequent movies.

The New Empire has a lackluster 54% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics but a strong 89% from audiences. The film was also a box office success, grossing $571 million.

Even though the Titans themselves are usually the stars of the show in the MonsterVerse movies, Debnam-Carey’s star power has steadily been rising in recent years, and she could make for a great addition to the film. After Apple Cider Vinegar, it will be especially interesting to see her new dynamic with Dever, whose character also remains shrouded in mystery. With filming reportedly getting underway in the near future, it may not be long before a new look at the Godzilla x Kong sequel makes its way online.
