Tim Allen teases a major plot point for Toy Story 5. Allen has been voicing Buzz Lightyear since the first Toy Story movie and will be reprising the role for Toy Story 5, which is slated to release on June 19, 2026. Directed by Finding Nemo and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5‘s story is confirmed to feature the returns of Woody and Buzz as they contend with the impact that technology has on Bonnie. An army of Buzz Lightyears stuck in toy mode are also involved in the story.
During an interview with Good Morning America (via Collider), Allen reveals that Toy Story 5 will feature Jessie in trouble and needs help. While he was unsure of what he was allowed to share about the plot, Allen discussed how he is in the process of recording Buzz’s lines from the movie’s third act and emphasized how impressed he is by the story that the sequel is telling. He also teased that there is considerable intrigue surrounding Buzz in Toy Story 5. Check out Allen’s comments below:
I’ve already begun, I’m in the third act now. It’s remarkable what they’ve done… with Pixar they didn’t say I couldn’t say anything but… I wish I could… There’s a lot of real intrigue with Buzz. Jessie’s got a big trouble, she needs help, so it’s a really cool thing.
What This Means For Toy Story 5
Jessie Will Be Pivotal To The Sequel
Jessie being in trouble and needing help from the other toys adds a significant piece to the puzzle beyond the theories for Toy Story 5. Other than the return of Woody and Buzz, the exploration of technology’s impact on children, and an army of Buzz Lightyears stuck in toy mode, little was previously known about the sequel’s plot. Jessie’s predicament has the potential to be part of the main conflict that Woody, Buzz, and their fellow toys will need to solve.

It will be intriguing to see if Jessie’s plight is connected to the challenges posed by technology, the army of Buzz Lightyears, or if it is a separate situation entirely. The prominent role that Allen hints at for Jessie is an encouraging sign that Joan Cusack will be back to reprise the role of the character she has been voicing since Toy Story 2. Allen and Tom Hanks returning to voice Woody and Buzz is exciting, and will be even more thrilling if they are joined by Cusack and other franchise veterans.
His Excitement Is A Promising Sign For Toy Story 5
While many characters will return in Toy Story 5, it is satisfying to have confirmation that Jessie will be back. She has done a great deal to help save Woody and other toys in need during the previous Toy Story movies. Now, Buzz, Woody, and other toys will need to step up and repay the favor to help Jessie, regardless of her situation. The story detail about Jessie is the biggest takeaway from Allen’s comments, but it is also promising to hear how enthusiastic he is about Toy Story 5, indicating that the sequel can maintain the franchise’s high quality.
