Directed by Matt Palmer, Netflix’s new slasher film takes place at Shadyside High’s 1988 senior prom, where several prom queen candidates are targeted by more than one masked murderer. At the end of Prom Queen, it’s revealed that Tiffany’s mother is responsible for killing Lori Granger’s (India Fowler) father, and her father has murdered all the other candidates. Born and raised by two slashers, the seemingly innocent queen bee turns out just like her parents.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns, Strazza spoke about Tiffany’s killer motives and how she hides them from everyone else. Referring to the speech Tiffany gave about her parents’ pressure after her dad was revealed to be a killer, the actor believes that her character is “speaking the truth,” but not without “ulterior motives behind it.” While filming the scene, Strazza revealed that she was genuinely sad because the movie was coming to an end. I think it’s a little bit of both. I think she’s speaking the truth with kind of ulterior motives behind it, but that genuine nature, that sadness, also probably came, because that was the very last scene we ever shot in the movie. India and I were a little bit like, “Oh man, this is the end,” and feeling like, inside, it’s all nothing, because we’re going to be separated 3000 miles apart.

The Car Ride Explains Tiffany’s Killer Origin

During the car ride, Tiffany apologized to Lori and shared that she was competitive because she never felt like she was good enough. Strazza’s comment sheds some light on how the speech also serves as an explanation for Tiffany’s motive and what shaped her as a killer like her parents, but it didn’t stop there. Tiffany’s vulnerability also prompted Lori to stay with her for the night.
