Following the success of Sonic 3, it has been confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in development.
The story of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, who are tasked with taking down Shadow, who awakens on Prison Island in Tokyo Bay, Japan at the beginning of the movie. Ivo and Gerald Robotnik both seemingly die at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which makes room for the series to introduce new characters. The post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 introduces Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, who will likely be major characters in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4. After the release of Sonic 3, writers Casey and Miller told IGN that they have tried to include Rouge in all three Sonic movies. However, they have not found the right way to introduce the character. Including Rouge in the first Sonic the Hedgehog film may have been too soon, as she is not as popular as other Sonic characters, such as Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. However, it would have been great to see her featured in the second or third film. Since Rouge hasn’t been included yet, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 would be the perfect movie to introduce her.

While Rouge’s true intentions are never really known, Shadow is one of the few characters that she is actually loyal to. Furthermore, there are hints that Rouge has a crush on Shadow in the video games. Therefore, it would be great to see this pairing in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Therefore, it’s possible that Rouge the Bat won’t have a major role in Sonic 4. Instead of playing a major role in the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, it might be better to introduce Rouge in the film’s post-credits scene.
