Thunderbolts* REAL Movie Title Confirmed As New Image Reveals Marvel Is Changing Its Billboards

WARNING: This article includes MAJOR SPOILERS from Thunderbolts*.Marvel Studios debuts the official Marvel Cinematic Universe movie title for Thunderbolts*. Following more than a year of building up to what that mysterious asterisk meant, the Thunderbolts* movie ending revealed what this team actually is in the MCU. While starting out as the Thunderbolts, the Phase 5 finale established Yelena Belova and her band of allies as the new faces of the MCU’s most famous superhero group.

With Thunderbolts* now playing in theaters, Marvel Studios has started the process of unveiling the film’s actual title. Jarett Wieselman shared an image showing that workers are currently changing the Thunderbolts* billboard to the film’s real title, The New Avengers. Check it out below:

The original Thunderbolts* billboard image had the Wheaties cereal box that was part of the MCU movie’s marketing campaign, which is highlighted in the film towards the end. During the first Thunderbolts* post-credits scene, Alexei Shostakov is seen trying to impress a customer in a grocery store in front of The New Avengers Wheaties cereal boxes, but she never realizes that this stranger is actually Red Guardian.

What The Thunderbolts* Billboard Being Changed To Read New Avengers Means

It may shock some audience members that The New Avengers title is already being put out there, but this is actually clever of them to do from a marketing standpoint. When it comes to superhero movies like Thunderbolts*, it doesn’t take very long before spoilers reach public online spaces, as it’s unfortunately becoming more common for scenes to be filmed in theaters and spread across social media – not to mention general word-of-mouth spoilers being spread.

Given that Avengers, one of the many Marvel references in Thunderbolts*, is also a massively popular brand compared to a name like Thunderbolts, this is bound to help with ticket sales in the coming weeks. In fact, it’s unclear why Marvel pulled this kind of stunt, especially when their movies haven’t been as profitable. Releasing a movie titled The New Avengers would’ve helped, but perhaps Marvel will still get a boost in the coming weeks.

However, despite the billboard changes, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Marvel Studios is going to have theaters change their Thunderbolts* listings and bookings to The New Avengers. While it is not out of the realm of possibility, it doesn’t seem to be the case for the time being. Whether or not the name Thunderbolts ever gets used again in the MCU remains to be seen, as it is unclear if a Thunderbolts* 2 movie will happen with other characters, but for this film, the title may still be used in many key areas.

Even though Marvel Studios is revealing Thunderbolts*’s real title sooner than expected, it will be intriguing to see if this will elevate ticket sales at the worldwide box office in the next couple of weeks. With positive critical reception from the Thunderbolts* movie reviews, the Phase 5 installment will ideally find solid commercial success. Since The New Avengers will be back in Avengers: Doomsday after Thunderbolts*, the new team is just getting started in the MCU.
