Robert De Niro’s return to mafia movies, The Alto Knights, will have its theatrical release in March before hitting streaming services later on. Robert De Niro leads The Alto Knights’ cast in two roles: infamous crime bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello.
Martin Scorsese’s The Departed features a mob boss named Frank Costello, played by Jack Nicholson, but that version is entirely fictional.
Genovese and Costello were real-life Italian Mafia crime bosses, and the movie depicts the two as once-great friends who have become rivals due to their mutual desire to control New York City.
