Zack Snyder Addresses The Justice League Snyder Cut 4 Years After Its Official Release And Says He’s “Still Humbled” That It Exists

To honor the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League four years ago, the DC filmmaker celebrated the four-hour cut on its anniversary. While James Gunn’s DC Universe is on the horizon following the end of the DCEU movie timeline, fans are still celebrating the Snyderverse, which became its own DC franchise when the Snyder Cut was finally greenlit to be released on HBO Max. The four-hour edition allowed the world to witness what Snyder had originally planned for his Justice League film following Joss Whedon’s controversial cut that was released in theaters.

Since Zack Snyder’s Justice League debuted on Max (formerly known as HBO Max) on March 18, 2021, fans were celebrating Snyder’s original cut through social media, and the director himself took part in the celebration. Check out Snyder’s full post below:

The X (formerly known as Twitter) post includes the original Zack Snyder’s Justice League trailer that was released during the film’s marketing campaign, but as the black-and-white edition. In Snyder’s post, the Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director stated, “It’s been 4 years. Still humbled by the fact that this exists at all. Big thanks to all of you that made it happen. If you have a spare 4 hours, go give it a watch on @StreamOnMax.”

.

Snyder’s commentary on Zack Snyder’s Justice League existence is a big reference to the fact that the campaign to get his original vision released was a long battle, with the help of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. It became evident in 2017 that Whedon’s Justice League cut had severely undermined what the filmmaker was striving to do, prior to him having to step away from post-production in light of his daughter, Autumn Snyder’s, passing. That is why it led to perhaps one of the most talked-about battles in film history of fans wanting to get the director’s creative vision fully realized and restored.

In the history of DC movies, the push to see Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut get its due is still a massive accomplishment, as the movement also became a big platform for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to honor the passing of Snyder’s daughter. Not only did the Snyder Cut symbolize fans’ desire to see artistic integrity be honored, but they also raised $500,000 for the organization. Even in the Snyder Cut, AFSP gets honored with an Easter egg featuring the organization.

While Snyder’s Justice League trilogy may never have gotten a chance to be made in order to complete the filmmaker’s full saga, the fact that the Snyder Cut got its release on Max is still, in a lot of ways, closure for the filmmaker. In the end, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was able to undo a lot of the damage that the 2017 cut had caused this Justice League project. For anyone who hasn’t caught Zack Snyder’s Justice League, or the Justice Is Gray black-and-white edition, it can still be streamed on Max.
