1923 Star Warns That Alex Hasn’t Hit Rock Bottom Yet After Her Rough S2 E4

Warning: The following contains spoilers for 1923 season 2, episode 4.1923 star Julia Schlaepfer, who plays Alexandra on the show, warns that the worst has yet to come for her character this season. After being separated from Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) in season 1, season 2 sees Alex embarking on a journey to America on her own. After enduring inhumane examinations at Ellis Island as an immigrant, she is robbed and attacked in 1923 season 2, episode 4.

In an interview with TVLine, Schlaepfer teases that something worse is on the horizon. The actor breaks down Alex’s thought process in the season so far, having passed the border control by herself and received “bits of kindness” from strangers along the way. She explains that Alex enters season 2 with a sense of naivety and believes that “she is through the worst of it” after having lost nearly everything of monetary value. However, Alex may have gotten ahead of herself. Check out what Schlaepfer said below:

After Ellis Island, she feels a little like, ‘OK, I can do this. I did that on my own. I didn’t have anyone protecting me. Spencer wasn’t here. I survived the unimaginable. This is the worst thing that possibly could have happened. Alex goes into Season 2 naive to what the world is like. She doesn’t fully understand it. And then, in Grand Central she gets these bits of kindness from the newsstand man and the Grand Central worker. I think it’s this moment of like, ‘OK, people are good. People are OK, and not all bad.

I think she thinks she is through the worst of it. She is continuously, this season, digging deeper to find her will to keep going.

Alex’s Journey Is About To Get A Lot Worse

1923 season 2 has put nearly every character through extremely harsh situations so far. Spencer can’t catch a break on his journey home. Forced to deliver bootlegged alcohol after saving a member of the Italian Mafia, he barely escapes Fort Worth, Texas, only to find himself on a train heading east and further from Montana. Similarly, things haven’t been easy for those at the Dutton ranch.

1923 Season 2, Episode 4 Just Revealed The Origin Of Yellowstone’s Train Station

The Duttons used the train station to dispose of dead bodies all the time in Yellowstone, and 1923 season 2 just revealed how they found out about it.

For Alex, her season 2 story unfortunately reflects a reality for women traveling alone across the world, and it is drastically changing her worldview. Every time Alex faces challenges, she fights back in a different way, but every time she’s on the other side of it, she bounces back because she believes that the fight is over. Schlaepfer’s comments indicate that Alex might be heading toward a breaking point in the next couple of episodes, which will be her real test.

Our Take On Alex’s Journey In 1923 Season 2

Alex Will Not Stop Fighting

Alex walking into an office in 1923 season 2

In 1923 season 2, Alex’s arc is less about love or romance but about her own will to fight. Certainly, she comes to America to be with Spencer, but just like Elizabeth, her love is being put on trial. However, unlike Elizabeth, Alex, though raised as royalty, is tough in her own way. At Ellis Island, she uses her wits to earn a stamp of approval to enter America’s border. At the train station, she collects herself and chases the train so that she can continue her journey.

Alex isn’t going to give up. Though at some point she’ll come to a realization about her naivety, as long as she’s breathing, she’ll continue to fight for the life she wants. One thing that separates Alex from Elizabeth is the fact that she’s not just running toward Spencer, but she’s also fighting for her freedom. 1923 season 2 puts the Dutton family through a series of tests during the harsh winter. However, after winter comes spring, and the show will hopefully reflect that in the end.
