4 Most Popular Severance Theories (& Whether They Are True) Addressed By Mark Star Adam Scott

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Severance season 2, episode 10!Adam Scott has addressed four of the most popular Severance theories, providing insight into whether they’re true after the season 2 finale. Severance season 2 ended with innie Mark (Scott) successfully saving Gemma (Dichen Lachman) from Lumon’s testing floor, before deciding to stay on the severed floor with Helly (Britt Lower). Dylan (Zach Cherry) is also down there, having convinced the innie marching band to rise up against Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman). While major developments happened in the final episode, there are still plenty of questions about the show’s world and characters that remain unanswered.

Speaking with GQ, Scott offered quick, succinct answers to four of the most popular Severance theories, offering some perception of whether they’re true. The actor doesn’t say much about theories involving Helly being pregnant after the ORTBO, nor whether Gemma went to Lumon on purpose. However, he doesn’t seem to believe theories that Irving (John Turturro) knows about the black hallway because he’s reintegrated, or that Ms. Huang (Sarah Bock) is Mark and Gemma’s daughter. Check out what Scott said below:

GQ: Theory one: Helena Eagan is pregnant following her night with Innie Mark at the ORTBO.

Adam Scott: Huh.

GQ: Theory two: Irving knows about the black hallway because he’s reintegrated.

Adam Scott: …Why?

GQ: Theory three: Miss Huang, the child deputy manager of the Severed floor, is Gemma’s daughter. (I’ll admit this one is ridiculous.)

Adam Scott: The timeline doesn’t really work.

GQ: Theory four: Gemma chose to go to Lumon and faked her own death.

Adam Scott: Interesting…

What Scott’s Answers Mean For Severance’s Biggest Theories

Season 3 Could See Some Of Them Come True

Based on Scott’s answers, it seems like some major theories about certain characters in Severance have been debunked. Irving’s reintegration theory already didn’t hold much weight, given the stark differences between his innie and outie during the Overtime Contingency. The same goes for Ms. Huang being Mark and Gemma’s daughter; while some sci-fi elements could have made it possible, the actor’s mention of the timing not making sense means the theory probably isn’t true. Neither of these ideas are likely to be addressed in the show’s future.

Severance: MDR’s Numbers & What They Do Fully Explained (Theory Confirmed)

The true purpose of Macrodata Refinement’s job and the meanings behind the number clusters are finally revealed in Severance’s season 2 finale.

However, the star’s answers to the other two questions are interesting, hinting at potential storyline developments in Severance season 3. Helly being pregnant seems very possible, with not enough time passing just yet to confirm whether that’s actually the case. As for Gemma, the possibility she was on the testing floor on purpose adds new layers to why she was there, potentially even explaining why she remembered who Mark was. Given Scott’s answers, both seem like plausible ideas for the show to explore in its next installment.

It’s clear from some of Scott’s non-answers about Severance‘s biggest theories that the door is open for any number of wild developments to unfold. The show has kept a tight lid on a number of mysteries that, going into season 3, will likely be directly addressed after the game-changing events of the season 2 finale. For now, it seems some theories remain more probable than others, but that anything could happen as more of the series’ world and story is unearthed.
