Agatha All Along Showrunner Addresses Potential Season 2 & How Agatha And The Maximoffs’ Stories Could Continue Elsewhere In The MCU

The possibility of Agatha All Along season 2 happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets addressed by the series’ showrunner, who also teases the future and fate of the Maximoffs in the franchise. Following her return to the MCU timeline, Agatha Harkness’ fate in the franchise remains to be seen after the conclusion of Agatha All Along. While many fans are hoping to see Agatha All Along season 2 happen, Disney+ and Marvel Studios have yet to move forward with another season of the series.

As the Agatha All Along team were recently present at PaleyFest, ScreenRant’s Owen Danoff chatted with showrunner Jac Schaeffer about the possible future of her latest MCU series. During this conversation, the idea that Agatha didn’t really get redeemed by the Agatha All Along finale was brought up, with Schaeffer explaining how they landed on that specific creative choice, as well as whether or not she thinks Hahn’s titular character will be capable of facing her son ever again down the line:

Jac Schaeffer: It was really early that we, meaning me and my producer, Mary Livanos and Brad Winderbaum, who runs Marvel TV, sort of held hands and decided this was not going to be a redemption arc–that Agatha was not a character that we wanted to make cuddly. We didn’t ever want her to be toothless. She has a heart and she has a code, and she has passions and motivations. She’s not Thanos. There’s so much nuance to her. But I wanted her to connect with Billy, connect with the women in her coven, to see a romantic past of hers, to know that she has a beating heart, but that she can’t quite get there to apologize for things or be a good person. It just didn’t feel right for her. As far as facing her son, I hope for her that someday that’s something she can do, but I think she’s got a long road.

During the red carpet interview, the question of Agatha All Along season 2 obviously came up as Schaeffer were asked about the MCU TV show’s hypothetical future. While another season may not be in the cards, Schaeffer also responded whether there is another MCU project or character that she would love to explore through another story, as she stated the following:

Jac Schaeffer: That’s a really good question. I sort of don’t think about it in terms of, “What is the project?” It’s more the characters, and all of these characters in this corner of the sandbox– Agatha, the Maximoffs, the townspeople of Westview, our coven… they all interest me. I mean, particularly Ralph Bohner. It’s a stable of performers and characters that are so close to my heart, so it’s really about them. Where they appear, I don’t know, but I am interested in being a part of those storylines at some point again.

The Agatha All Along finale keeping Agatha true to her character is one of the many reasons why she became such a breakout figure from WandaVision. In many ways, Agatha gets to be one of the biggest wildcards in the MCU franchise, as the writers can always take her in many unexpected directions, which happened many times during Schaeffer’s WandaVision and Agatha All Along series. That is also why fans have become invested in her, because Agatha can go in many directions since she isn’t locked to one specific role in the MCU.

As far as Agatha All Along season 2 goes, the Maximoffs’ journey is clearly not over, as the new Vision TV show is in the works, which will be the second WandaVision spinoff, and potentially where Tommy gets explored. If anything, both Billy Maximoff and Agatha could show up there, which would bring a lot of things full circle. Whether or not those plans would include any involvement of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, however, would be the bigger question.

From everything Schaeffer stated about the direction of Agatha All Along and the future of those characters, it will be fascinating to see where they end up next, both during and after The Multiverse Saga. While it may not have been announced, it would make sense if the Vision series ends up being where Agatha and Billy pop up next following the Agatha All Along finale. Though Agatha All Along season 2 may not be happening, Marvel Studios will hopefully reveal sooner rather than later what is next for Agatha and Billy.

Agatha All Along season 1 is available for streaming on Disney+.
