Anansi Boys Star Doesn’t Believe Neil Gaiman’s Prime Video Adaptation Will “Ever See The Light Of Day”

Anansi Boys actor Delroy Lindo shares his thoughts on the series’ fate as its creator, Neil Gaiman, is currently facing several serious allegations. Based on Gaiman’s fantasy novel of the same name about the trickster god Anansi and his son, the upcoming British miniseries was originally set to be released at some point in 2025, with Lindo set to play Mr. Nancy. However, the Prime Video show has yet to announce its release date.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly while promoting his new movie, Sinners, Lindo casts doubt on Anansi Boys‘ fate amidst Gaiman’s legal drama. The actor expressed that he doesn’t believe the project will “ever see the light of day” due to the complex journey it goes through to be made, sharing that “one can always slip up” and cause a project to be halted indefinitely. While Lindo stressed that “it’s a shame” for Anansi Boys not to be made, he also warned that he “could be wrong.” Read his comments below:

I don’t think that’ll ever see the light of day. It’s too bad on many levels, but I was really excited to do it. Don’t count your chickens, man. It’s a shame. I could be wrong about Anansi Boys. Maybe it’ll be released. This is another reason to knock on wood. Because there are banana peels all over the landscape. No matter how experienced the level of talent that’s involved, one can always slip up, which brings me back to the knocking on wood thing. S— can happen, man. At any point.

Neil Gaiman’s TV Miniseries Remains In Limbo Despite An Expected 2025 Release

Following several sexual assault allegations against the writer, many Neil Gaiman projects have been halted and canceled, including the scheduled comic adaptation of Anansi Boys. Prime Video also changed the plan for the upcoming Good Omens season 3 and reduced it to one 90-minute episode, with Gaiman not involved. Anansi Boys has completed filming and may still be released, but the lack of an official statement from Prime Video does not bode well.

Delroy Lindo first played Mr. Nancy in the Starz adaptation of the Gaiman novel American Gods.

Lindo’s comments point to a scenario where Anansi Boys is never released. However, it does sound like there might still be a chance for the series to see the light of day. Earlier, Netflix announced The Sandman‘s season 2 return, with Volume 1 expected to arrive on July 3 and Volume 2 on July 24 as the show is brought to a conclusion. On the other hand, more legal cases seem to be headed Gaiman’s way, as earlier this year, the author and his estranged wife were hit with a human trafficking lawsuit.

Our Take On Anansi Boys’ Fate

It May Be A Wait, But It’s Too Soon To Tell

It’s very likely that Prime Video might opt to wait a bit longer to decide on the TV miniseries’ fate. Lindo’s comment confirms the lack of updates from the studio. While on the surface, it may seem like a long shot for the Anansi Boys show to be released, but with the series being fully filmed, it would feel like a waste if it ends up being shelved.

So far, Gaiman is still wrapped in the legal drama, and none of the lawsuits and allegations have reached a verdict. In the meantime, it makes sense to temporarily halt the project instead of canceling it altogether. While there might be a wait to know for certain whether Anansi Boys is happening, fans should not give up hope just yet.
