A star from a beloved 1990s sci-fi show pitches a reboot idea, but with one caveat. The genre of science-fiction flourished on television during the 1990s, offering audiences imaginative explorations of futuristic technology and alien encounters. Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ended in 1994, set a high bar for sci-fi, while its spin-offs, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, expanded the franchise’s universe. Meanwhile, The X-Files captivated viewers with its blend of government conspiracies, paranormal phenomena, and the chemistry between its two leads, Mulder and Scully, becoming a cultural phenomenon.
The era also saw the rise of more diverse sci-fi narratives, such as the epic storytelling of Babylon 5, which helped pioneer serialized television arcs. Stargate SG-1 debuted in 1997, blending military drama with intergalactic adventure, while Farscape (1999) offered a darker and more surreal take on space exploration. Amid these series, Sliders stood out for its concept of parallel worlds, with each episode presenting a unique twist on reality.
Sliders Star Pitches A Reboot Idea
(But With 1 Caveat)
The star of the beloved 1990s sci-fi show Sliders pitches a reboot idea, but with one caveat. Created by Robert K. Weiss and Tracy Tormé, the sci-fi series aired for five seasons on Fox and the Sci-Fi Channel from 1995 to 2000, following a group of travelers who use a wormhole to travel, or “slide,” between different parallel universes. The original main cast included Jerry O’Connell as Quinn Mallory, who created the sliding technology, alongside John Rhys-Davies, Sabrina Lloyd, Cleavant Derricks, Kari Wuhrer, Charlie O’Connell, Robert Floyd, and Tembi Locke.

Sliders: Why Jerry O’Connell’s Quinn Mallory Left After Season 4
Sliders is a fondly remembered cult show for many sci-fi fans, but it never truly recovered after the departure of Jerry O’Connnell’s Quinn Mallory.
Now, a star from the beloved 1990s sci-fi series is pitching a reboot idea, but with one caveat. On X, formerly Twitter, Jerry O’Connell suggested a Sliders reboot, but would like it to follow the approach of the first two seasons, noting how the show changed from season 3 onwards. Check out his full post below:
It Should Follow The Approach Of The First 2 Seasons
Jerry O’Connell’s comments suggest that, if a Sliders reboot were to ever happen, it should follow the approach of the first two seasons, an idea that is surely supported by many fans as well. Starting with the third season, there was a major shift in the show’s creative direction, as Fox pushed for it to become more action-oriented rather than thought-provoking, causing many changes to its cast and crew. In turn, Jerry O’Connell’s idea would probably be key to getting the original cast and crew back on board for a Sliders reboot.
In 2021, the late Tracy Tormé said that a Sliders reboot was actively being developed, but it’s unclear if that’s still the case.
