Eddie’s role in Suits L.A. has been clarified by creator Aaron Korsh, who explains how the character will influence Ted Black’s journey throughout the series. Suits‘ NBC spinoff follows Ted (Stephen Amell), a former federal prosecutor who transitions into entertainment law in Los Angeles after his career takes an unexpected turn. Following a major twist in Suits L.A. episode 1, Ted is left to rebuild his firm and air his grievances with his older brother, Eddie (Carson A. Egan)—who is revealed to be dead at the end of the Suits L.A. premiere.
In an interview with TVLine, Korsh explained that Eddie is not a ghost but a representation of Ted’s subconscious. The character appears in flashbacks, but serves as a guiding, metaphysical voice for Ted in the present. The West Coast lawyer’s conversations with Eddie are expected to be a major emotional thread throughout Suits L.A. Here’s what he had to say:
Well, I don’t know if it’s haunting him, necessarily. It’s, to some degree, helping him. Eddie comes and goes from time to time. First of all, Eddie is alive and well in the flashback, so in some of the flashbacks, you’ll see Eddie, obviously, not as a spirit, but as an actual person.
But it’s not really, to me, Eddie’s spirit. What Eddie really is in the present day, to me, is sort of Ted’s subconscious speaking to him. So Eddie is most often, in my mind, the voice of forgiveness. It’s Ted’s softer side that Ted might not be in touch with. So Eddie encourages him to maybe forgive his father, or maybe forgive Stuart, or whatever the case may be. But he appears at times throughout the season in the present day, and at times, throughout the season in the past.
What Eddie’s Presence In Suits L.A. Means
A New Psychological Twist In The Suits Universe
What initially seems like just a chaotic few days for Ted is actually an intricate setup for the Suits L.A. story, taking a more layered approach to its leading lawyer than its beloved predecessor. Eddie’s role as Ted’s “voice of forgiveness” could shape several key narratives moving forward. The late brother may be the catalyst for Ted eventually reconciling with Stuart or their estranged father. Yet, given Stuart and Rick’s betrayal in the Suits premiere, Ted will likely be on high alert, making Eddie’s appearances all the more significant as an indication of his softer, more vulnerable side.

10 Reasons Suits LA’s Reviews Are So Bad
The West-Coast spinoff of Suits was highly-anticipated, but Suits LA is failing to live up to its predecessor in the eyes of early critics.
That said, Suits L.A. has received mixed reviews so far. ScreenRant’s Ana Dumaraog criticized the spinoff for “[electing] to incorporate confusing flashbacks that distract from an already complicated present timeline,” and ultimately gave the show a 4 out of 10 stars. Flashback sequences were not always well-received in the original Suits, yet the West Coast seems to be stuck between its legacy and forging a new future. Eddie’s continued presence—both in flashbacks and as Ted’s subconscious—could become one of the show’s strongest emotional anchors if it doesn’t collapse the story into mayhem.
Our Take On Eddie’s Impact in Suits L.A.
A Move To Make Or Break The Spinoff
Eddie’s presence in Suits L.A. is a bold storytelling choice from Korsh that sets Ted apart from Suits‘ Harvey Specter. While the legal drama remains front and center, Eddie allows for introspective moments that humanize Ted beyond his cutthroat career. However, Suits L.A. should manage this carefully, as Harvey’s lighthearted wit was a significant part of the original series’ success. Eddie could be one of the spinoff’s most compelling and unexpected strengths, but so far, Ted has struggled to connect with audiences in a way that makes their conversations feel emotionally impactful.
