Found Season 3 & Brilliant Minds Season 2 Get Cautious Renewal Updates From Studio Exec Amid Network’s Changing Lineup

As Warner Bros. continues to adjust NBC’s slate, Found and Brilliant Minds have earned cautious updates. Found, which is currently airing its sophomore season, has seen success on the network, though it has seen falling viewership over the course of the season. The medical drama Brilliant Minds finished season 1 on January 6 and has been awaiting its season 2 renewal ever since. Both shows have found critical success, but they have not yet been confirmed, even as NBC has already renewed St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place.

In an interview with Deadline, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey offered an update about NBC’s future lineup. While he did not expressly state that both shows would receive renewals, he confirmed that NBC has offered an overview of the next season of both shows and remains “optimistic“. The “internal deliberation processes” will continue, but Dungey believes that can still potentially earn follow-up seasons. Check out his quote below:

We don’t [know] yet. They’re going through all of their internal deliberation processes. We have presented a Season 2 overview for Brilliant Minds and a Season 3 overview for Found and got great response from the creative teams on both. We’re optimistic. It comes back to what I had said earlier, which is, we believe that we are delivering the best quality programming, and that is what gives us the courage to continue to move forward in a space that is increasingly competitive. And we are also very adept at Warner Bros. We know how to produce things at a low price point, at a high price point, and everything in between. So we feel like even in the even in this era where broadcast belts are getting tighter, we still feel like we can do an excellent job, even within budget constraints.

Renewals Are Still A Possibility

Found and Brilliant Minds have been slow to receive much acknowledgment from NBC. The network has not yet fully confirmed many of its renewals, aside from Happy’s Place and St. Denis Medical, but Dick Wolf’s various shows, including Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Law & Order, and Law & Order: SVU, are all expected to receive word soon, per Deadline. With those shows well on their way to renewal, word about Found and Brilliant Minds could come soon, especially since both shows have seen positive responses from critics and audiences alike on Rotten Tomatoes:

The critics should certainly help both shows to achieve success, as neither show has seen a score of under 70%. Found is trending lower, as it has a Tomatometer score of 70% and a Popcornmeter score of 77%, which hardly matches Brilliant Minds‘ 88% and 84% respectively. Still, both received positive responses, indicating that there should be strong word of mouth for the shows going forward. Brilliant Minds‘ season 1 ending also left audiences with a hanging note for season 2, which could prompt backlash if NBC elects to avoid renewing the show.

Our Take On Found And Brilliant Minds’ Potential Renewals

They Both Deserve To Continue

In the age of early cancelations, many shows fail to receive renewals even when they might deserve it. Warrior Nuns, for instance, was axed by Netflix, before a widespread fan campaign brought it back to life, so even if NBC cuts these shows, they could potentially find life somewhere else. Still, it is likely that the network will elect to renew these shows, given that they have had fairly consistent viewership and good reviews. Brilliant Minds and Found deserve new seasons, and they should receive them, if all proceeds as expected.
