Ghosts star Rose McIver teases an eventful season 4 finale. CBS renewed a slew of its comedies and dramas on February 20, including a two-season pick-up for Ghosts. That would take the hit sitcom from showrunners Joe Port and Jose Wiseman up to Ghosts season 6. It also means that Sam (McIver), Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) and the Woodstone spirits have at least a few more memorable finales to work their way through.
In an interview with Variety to discuss directing her first episode, McIver teased what viewers can expect from the upcoming season 4 finale. In the quote below, the actor talks about the fact that the Ghosts season finales always tend to be eventful. In particular, the iZombie alum teases that the season’s closing episode will feature several spirits and says that “we’ll have to take a week or two to just come back to Earth”:
“I’ll say, your guess is as good as mine, when the audience watches it, how on earth we’re going to go into 5eason 5, where that catapults things into.”
“The finale is always big. For example, there’s a line in the script that says, ‘we see a who’s who of ghostdom.’ We have so many guest stars, and it’s very fun, but it’s herding cats! I think we’re all kind of gonna step outside and our ears will be ringing, and we’ll have to take a week or two to just come back to Earth.”
The Show Tends To Go Big
The CBS show has made a habit out of leaving things on a cliffhanger, whether it’s an abduction in season 3 or the tease that one spirit might have moved on in season 2. The cast of Ghosts always tends to reset not too long after the next season’s premiere, but the cliffhangers do have lingering impacts and tend to influence stories meaningfully after the fact. Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) was never quite the same after his abduction, after all.

There is a question, though, of what the next Ghosts cliffhanger actually ends up being. There are major threads that the sitcom is largely reluctant to pull on, whether it’s Sam losing her powers, Jay gaining powers, or the very real loss of one of the spirits. There will be time to pace the major reveals now that the series is renewed for at least two more seasons.
Our Take On The Upcoming Ghosts Finale
Take A Big Swing
Ghosts should take the two-season renewal as a chance to do something daring. It’s unclear when the series will come to a close. But, for example, a storyline where the Woodstone spirits start to move on in relatively quick succession because they’re positively impacted by the interactions with Sam would be an ongoing arc that would impact everyone and add some emotional weight to the relationships.
Ghosts season 4 airs Thursdays at 8:30 PM ET on CBS.
