Why Rescue: HI-Surf’s Em & Will Make A Great Team Despite The Odds

Rescue: HI-Surf season 1 episode 10 is the show’s first episode of the new year, and has quite a lot to follow up on given how Will and Em’s relationship has progressed throughout the season. Still, the pair works well together, as seen in the clip above, with Will and Em rushing to the rescue and communicating effectively. It’s clear that Will and Em are able to maintain focus even in the face of the romantic ups and downs they have both experienced in the show thus far.

Will and Em have a lot of history in Rescue: HI-Surf, and their romantic status alone could warrant its own episode. Still, Arielle Kebbel and Adam Demos lean into their characters’ devotion to their work and show audiences how both Em and Will can put their work first, no matter how convoluted their personal lives can get. If anything, the history between the two characters, even if messy, may help them communicate more efficiently and effectively.

With romantic tension in the air between most of Rescue Hi-Surf’s leads, the theme of putting personal drama aside in favor of fulfilling one’s duty is constant in the show. Rescue Hi-Surf certainly builds toward setting up its TV couples, but each lifeguard on the show is devoted to their work and can focus on what matters most when lives are on the line. In addition to helping ground the series’ dramatic concept, this approach also makes romantic relationships between the characters even easier to root for.

New episodes of Rescue: HI-Surf air on Mondays at 9:00 PM.
