Isaiah Mustafa shares what he knows about Cross season 2 and Kayla’s cliffhanger ending. The star plays John Sampson in Prime Video’s Alex Across adaptation alongside Aldis Hodge, who headlines the show as the titular detective. In season 1, the two detectives track down Ed Ramsey, aka Play Boy, (Ryan Eggold) a serial killer who recreates murders from other famous killers. In the Cross finale’s mid-credit scene, Kayla Craig (Alona Tal) offers Ramsey’s accomplice Bobby Trey (Johnny Ray Gill) a deal to trade all Ramsey’s contacts for a reduced sentence.
In a recent interview for Instacart’s Super Bowl commercial, Mustafa told Screen Rant what he knows about season 2. The star admitted that he doesn’t know when a new season will come out but suspected that “everything’s getting finalized soon.” He teased season 2 being “different and just as good“ and will “play on” season 1’s cliffhanger ending. Check out what he said below:
I don’t know when it’s going to come out, and I haven’t heard about any teasers. I did do some ADR for it, so I suspect that everything’s getting finalized soon. From what I saw, it’s different and just as good. I’m looking forward for people to see it. I think there’s definitely some new things that arise in season 2, but I think what you saw in that teaser, there’s gonna be a lot to play on that. I wish I could say more, but that’s it. [Laughs]
Cross Season 2 Is Finalizing Details
Cross season 2 was officially confirmed in April 2024 ahead of season 1’s premiere. In November, the series showrunner Ben Watkins revealed that season 2 was already filmed and was in post-production. Each season is based on a new mystery. Season 1 is called “Hero Complex,” and season 2 is called “Bitter Fruit.” Mustafa’s comment about doing Automated Dialogue Replacement, which typically takes place in a studio after filming, confirms that they are finalizing season 2 details.

Although Amazon Prime Video’s Cross is based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross books, it brings many significant changes to the stories from the source.
While there’s still no news about season 2’s release date, it doesn’t seem like the wait will be long. Watkins has previously shared that Prime Video intended to have a regular schedule for the show’s return, which means that Cross could return in late fall around the same time season 1 was released. The showrunner has confirmed that season 2 will introduce a new killer, but Mustafa’s comment hints that there’s more to know about Kayla and Bobby’s arrangement.
Our Take On Cross Season 2
Season 2 Further Follows Bobby And Kayla’s Deal
It sounds like Bobby is going to return in season 2, and the information about Ramsey’s contacts could potentially bring a lot of people down. The Cross season 1 finale left just enough space for things to go in any direction in season 2. For instance, the deal could go sideways, and Bobby could turn up as a secondary villain again. It seems like while each season will have its own independent storyline, the Bobby and Kayla deal might be the series’ overarching arc.
On the other hand, Mustafa’s comment also indicates a lack of development for season 3, which slightly contradicts Watkins’ ambitious four-year plan and Prime Video’s initial enthusiasm for the show to go on for years. Despite being a huge hit on the streaming platform and having an overall positive critical reception, Cross only has a modest 65% audience approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes, which casts slight uncertainty on the show’s future.
