How The Night Agent Season 2 Ending Sets Up Peter’s Next Mission In Season 3 Addressed By Creator & Gabriel Basso

Major spoilers for The Night Agent season 2 finale “Divergence”!The Night Agent star Gabriel Basso and creator explain how season 3 already has its next conspiracy lined up. The tense thriller stars Basso as Peter Sutherland, the Night Agent who has fallen onto the very same steps as his disgraced father. Night Agent‘s season 2 finale revealed that Peter is now officially a double agent, having agreed to serve as a mole in Jacob Monroe’s (Louis Herthum) operation to erase his criminal background. With President Hagan poised to enter office soon, Peter has difficult choices ahead in season 3.

In an interview with Tudum by Netflix, Basso and creator Shawn Ryan opened up about the show’s upcoming direction. Rather than creating an all-new storyline, Peter will naturally be following the schemes set up by season 2. They tease that the protagonist will need to determine if President Hagan or Jacob Monroe is the narrative’s more dangerous villain. Check out their quotes below:

Basso: “I think he’s just going to be pulled in different directions and hopefully not torn in half.”

Ryan: “Peter falls in the middle of an awkward and uncomfortable place — he’s between two very powerful people that may be up to no good. That will be an interesting question in Season 3: Who’s really in control of that relationship — President Hagan or Jacob Monroe?”

What The Season 3 Storyline Means For The Night Agent

Peter Is Now Just Like His Father

After the season 1 finale revealed that Peter’s father was secretly a traitor, he could only comfort himself with the knowledge that his father was attempting to become a double agent. But, in season 2, Peter sees a different perspective on how an innocent man could be roped into a life of crime. After Peter and Rose’s relationship fell on the rocks, Peter needed to turn traitor to remain on the right side of the law. The upcoming season could easily see him balancing heroics with further criminal behavior as he attempts to redeem himself.

While there is no release date yet for season 3, the Netflix series has already been renewed.

With President Hagan poised to enter the White House, the stakes will only grow higher. In The Night Agent season 3, Peter will need to infiltrate Monroe’s operations, while also wrestling with Hagan’s scheming. As Hagan believes that he is not Monroe’s puppet, the two will begin to wrestle for supremacy. Season 3 was already renewed months before season 2 aired, so the storyline should easily be able to progress as planned. While the two villains attempt to gain power, Peter will be right at the center of their conflict.

Our Take On The Night Agent’s Season 3 Story

It Is Poised To Be A Truly Great Thriller

The Night Agent has taken a new direction that would open up difficult avenues for Peter. While Peter struggles to reckon with his new responsibilities, the audience should be able to enjoy the ever-increasing stakes. The parallels between Peter and his father are more obvious than ever, especially as he is forced to serve in Monroe’s metaphorical court. It will be exciting to see if more details about Peter Sr.’s treachery come to light in season 3. It was the underlying conflict of season 1, and it would be excellent to see the show continue from that angle.
