Invincible Season 4 Progress Gets Careful Update From Stars As Season 3 Gets Show Back On Yearly Release Track

Invincible season 4 is already in development ahead of the release of season 3, though some of its progress varies among its cast members. Based on Robert Kirkman’s comics, it follows seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson AKA Invincible, son of the most powerful superhero on the planet as he develops powers of his own. Streaming on Prime Video since 2021, Invincible’s voice cast includes Steven Yeun as Mark, J.K. Simmons as Nolan AKA Omni-Man, Sandra Oh as Debbie and Gillian Jacobs as Atom Eve, among others. Invincible season 3 premiered on February 6 and opened with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

During an interview with ScreenRant for season 3, Simmons confirmed he has recorded a small portion of his lines for Invincible season 4, while Mantzoukas has yet to receive updates, and Yeun remains cautious about revealing details. Simmons indicated that he will continue recording dialogue in the coming months. Meanwhile, Mantzoukas acknowledged that work is underway but noted he is typically informed of recording sessions shortly before they happen. Check out their comments below:

Steven Yeun: I don’t even know if there’s anything for us to say, other than we hope we can deliver to you a great show every year.

J.K. Simmons: Yeah, I already have recorded a tiny bit of season 4, and I think it’s going to be a couple of months before I get back into the studio again. And I don’t know in advance where we’re going, I’ll know when they say we’re going to do episodes 2-4 sometime in whatever it is, March, April, May. Sometime in the not too distant future, and then, obviously, a year later, they’ll be done with animating it and it’ll come out. [Chuckles]

Jason Mantzoukas: That I don’t know. I know it’s already in process, I know all of that’s going on, but I can’t speak to where they are in their process. You’d be shocked to find out they do not keep me in the loop on stuff until they’re like, “Hey, Tuesday, get in your closet. We need to record you.” It’s so funny because, at a certain point, I had to be like, “Hey, can I get the full script? I want to read what’s up. I want to read everybody else’s stuff.” Because I’m only seeing my couple of pages here and there, so when I started getting the full scripts, boy, incredible.

What This Means For Invincible’s Production Timeline

Season 3 Could Put Season 4’s Production Timeline Back On Track

For Invincible, voice recording occurred in multiple sessions throughout production, often months apart. Simmons’ confirmation that he’s already recorded some dialogue, as well as Mantzoukas and Yeun’s mindful comments regarding production, suggests work is in the early stages for Invincible season 4. However, the show’s animation process is time-intensive, as the animators’ use of traditional and digital animation requires extensive post-production.
