Legally Blonde Prequel Show’s Release Window Revealed, And It’s Soon

The release window of the Legally Blonde prequel, Elle, has been revealed. Starring Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods, a role famously portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in the film franchise, the new prequel series takes place in the 1990s and sees Woods facing various challenges in high school. In addition to Minetree, Elle‘s cast includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mom Eva, Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s dad Wyatt, Gabrielle Policano as Liz, and Jacob Moskovitz as Miles.

Per Deadline, Elle will arrive on Prime Video during summer 2025. Created by High School‘s co-showrunner Laura Kittrell and The Vampire Diaries‘ executive producer Caroline Dries, the series also sees Witherspoon as a producer alongside Marc Platt, Lauren Neustadter, and Lauren Kisilevsky with Hello Sunshine. The release window update was shared during Prime Video’s upfront presentation.

What Elle’s Release Window Means For The New Prime Video Series

The Prequel Will Debut Soon

As a prequel, Elle will dive deep into the titular character’s backstory and reveal some of the significant events that shaped her into the iconic young woman in the first Legally Blonde, in which Woods went to Harvard Law to become a lawyer. In January, Kittrell revealed that the hit Netflix series, Wednesday, served as a big inspiration for the Legally Blonde prequel, as she felt drawn to explore who the titular character was before college and law school.

Legally Blonde Prequel Series Has To Get This 1 Thing Right For It To Be As Good As The Reese Witherspoon Movies

Legally Blonde’s prequel TV show, Elle, needs to get the casting right in order for the series to be as good as Reese Witherspoon’s iconic movies.

Witherspoon, who popularized the role in the original film series, announced the prequel last year. She teased that the upcoming Prime Video show was her dream-come-true and promised the new series would show a raw and vulnerable side of Elle Woods as she navigates the world as a teenager. Despite being made over two decades since the first film, the series is poised to capture the character’s unique personality and ingenuity that captivated fans in the first place.

Our Take On Elle’s Release Window

It Is A Pleasant Surprise

Elle‘s summer arrival is a slight surprise. The release window is much sooner than expected, given it’s only been a year since Witherspoon’s announcement. However, the news is no doubt an exciting one, and it sounds like fans of Legally Blonde and early 2000s guilty pleasure films will be able to catch the new series in the coming months.

While Witherspoon is unlikely to return in the prequel series, the premise of Elle alone makes it highly anticipated. Additionally, the star was responsible for casting Minetree to play the younger version of her character while set to reprise her role in the upcoming Legally Blonde 3. With an exceedingly strong creative behind the drama series and the original Elle Woods star at its helm, the new Prime Video series is unlikely to disappoint.
