Parker Posey addresses whether her Mr. & Mrs. Smith character will return in season 2. The Prime Video series, created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover, explores the working and romantic partnership of undercover spies. In the season 1 finale, John and Jane Smith (Glover and Maya Erskine) are forced to combat another pair of agents, played by Wagner Moura and Posey, who were assigned to eliminate them. The fates of everyone involved remain unclear, but the casting of Mark Eydelshteyn as a new lead suggests that Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 will shift in focus.
During an interview with ScreenRant for The White Lotus season 3, Posey revealed that she has not heard anything about reprising her role of the “Other Jane,” despite the Mr. & Mrs. Smith cliffhanger ending. No, I haven’t [gotten the call yet]. But how much did you love that Wagner Moura? What a dream boat. What a dreamy guy. We had such a good time between the four of us and Maya and Donald and Wagner. Great group of people. Really great, really great, great writing, so witty, so subtle, and they’re just so bad, these rotten people, right? They just sold their lives. And then this couple isn’t even married. My mom just really loved that, she thought that was hilarious.

The Other John And Jane May Not Return
After nearly killing each other in the Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 ending, John and Jane are confronted by the other spies, who refer to their missions as being very dangerous. However, it is revealed that all of their assignments from their mysterious employer have been to terminate Smiths. Taking a shot to his eye, the “Other John” declared he was dying, while the “Other Jane” attempted to finish off the main couple. In the end, Jane decided to attack Posey’s character with her one remaining bullet, but three gunshots could be seen from outside.

Because her fate is unknown, a potential appearance by the “Other Jane” in future Mr. & Mrs. Smith seasons cannot be ruled out yet. Not only was she armed with more gun power, but Posey’s character successfully assassinated various Smiths in the past. Therefore, her avoiding a single blow, or surviving the shot, depending on where she was hit, seems possible. Also, while the “Other John” was audibly concerned over his blood loss, that death was never confirmed on-screen either.

Based on the reveal of other Smiths, including those played by Alexander Skarsgård and Eiza González, it makes sense to explore a new story and avoid similar conflicts. As of right now, Posey’s comments indicate that she may not return to Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2, but upcoming episodes will likely still explain what happened to the “Other Jane” during the finale. If she survived, she could make an appearance down the line, but if not, audiences will be eager to see how Jane managed to defeat her.
