Netflix Locks In Anime Expansion With Record of Ragnarok Season 3 Reveal

Warning: Contains spoilers for Record of Ragnarok. At long last, Record of Ragnarok has finally been confirmed to have a third season in development. As divisive as Record of Ragnarok has been because of its poor pacing and animation, the series has nonetheless been popular with fans from day one, and the fact that season 2 did see a slight uptick in quality helped sell that point even further.

Record of Ragnarok has become a household name among Netflix’s anime line-up, and there’s finally more in store for fans. Despite season 2 ending on a cliffhanger, there’s been no news on any sort of follow-up for the past two years, but at long last, Record of Ragnarok season 3 has finally been confirmed to be in development. There still isn’t much known about season 3, with even its release date currently unknown, but with the story that’s set to be told, this announcement is nonetheless exciting to see.

What To Expect From Record Of Ragnarok Season 3

Record Of Ragnarok Season 3’s Story Explained

While Record of Ragnarok season 3 is still in development, it’s plenty easy to figure out what the plot will be. The previous two seasons each covered three matches across 12 episodes, and with season 2 already teasing the seventh match between Qin Shi Huang and Hades, Record of Ragnarok season 3 will follow up Qin Shi Huang vs. Hades with Nikola Tesla vs. Beelzebub and end with Leonidas vs. Apollo. That would also leave things on the cliffhanger setup of Okita Souji vs. Susano’o, and overall, that would be a great place to end things.

What makes that especially interesting is where it will leave Record of Ragnarok’s overarching narrative. As anyone who read the manga will know, while Qin Shi Huang defeats Hades, Nikola Tesla and Leonidas both lose to Beelzebub and Apollo, respectively, which puts humanity in a precarious situation where they’ll be destroyed if the gods win two more fights. Record of Ragnarok season 3 is poised to be the first season to end on a low note for humanity, and that stark contrast to previous seasons will make for an interesting change of pace.

Record Of Ragnarok Season 3 Needs To Fix The Anime’s Biggest Flaw

What Record Of Ragnarok Season 3 Needs To Change

As exciting as Record of Ragnarok getting a third season is, it still needs to fix the anime’s biggest problem: its visuals. As previously mentioned, the biggest problem with the anime is how lackluster the art and animation tend to be, especially when compared to the gorgeous artwork and fight choreography of the Record of Ragnarok manga. The series is only going to ramp up in action and drama from here, so now more than ever, Record of Ragnarok needs to get better art and animation to properly live up to the manga and be a better anime, in general.

There is some hope to be had, of course. Season 2, while still not looking the best, was a notable step up from season 1’s largely poor quality, so if the anime continues to follow that trajectory, then Record of Ragnarok season 3 is bound to have another increase in quality that will hopefully bring it up to the incredible standards of the manga. How everything will play out has yet to be seen, of course, but hopefully, Record of Ragnarok season 3 will be the exact sort of continuation fans of the series deserve.
