Nobody Wants This Season 2 Filming Start Date Confirmed By Esther Actor: “It’s Been A Whirlwind”

The filming start date for Nobody Wants This season 2 has received an update. The Netflix romantic comedy series premiered in 2024 and followed the romance that blossoms between an unusual pair, namely an agnostic sex and relationship podcaster, Joanne (Kristen Bell), and a rabbi, Noah (Adam Brody). Nobody Wants This season 2 was renewed just two weeks after the show premiered, debuting at No. 2 behind the second week of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix’s chart of the Top 10 most-watched English-language shows and rising to No. 1 the following week.

At the red carpet for the Critics Choice Awards, Deadline spoke about the next season of Nobody Wants This with Jackie Tohn, who plays Noah’s sister-in-law Esther. In a video shared on their X account, Tohn revealed that principal photography for season 2 kicks off on March 3, which is slightly later than the February start originally revealed by Adam Brody. While she couldn’t reveal plot details, she shared that she has spoken with the writers about her character’s arc and “it’s gonna be really exciting.” Read her full quote and see the original video below:

Well you know I can’t tell [plot details.] I haven’t read anything yet, but I’ve got into the writers’ room, we’ve talked about my character arc, and that’s all really exciting. I love her, I love it. So, stay tuned, it’s gonna be really exciting.

But we start March 3. I don’t know what date it is, but I feel like that’s soon. So, it’s been a whirlwind. It sort of feels like we haven’t stopped since Season 1, because we came out and then we were doing press. Then we were sort of thrust right into awards season, which was sort of insane that we were even included in that conversation. And now, we’re starting Season 2 already. It’s sort of just going, it’s awesome.

What This Means For Nobody Wants This

Season 2 Could Still Debut Relatively Soon

This update means that the wait will last at least one additional month before the Nobody Wants This season 1 ending cliffhanger is resolved. However, it does offer insight into when season 2 may premiere on the streaming platform. Because the show is set in reality and likely does not require extensive visual effects in post-production, the hiatus may still not be as long as the average Netflix series.

Some of Netflix’s most popular series have very long hiatuses, like the wait between Stranger Things seasons, which have recently reached nearly three-year spans.

If it follows the precedent set by season 1, the wait may not be long at all. Season 1 was originally shot between February 2 and May 16, 2024 before debuting on September 26. This was a roughly seven-month period, which explains the whirlwind feeling Tohn describes. If season 2 takes a similar amount of time once principal photography kicks off, it is possible that it could be ready to premiere on Netflix as early as October 27, 2025. This means that the Nobody Wants This season 2 release date could come just over a year after its debut season.

Our Take On The Nobody Wants This Season 2 Update

A 2025 Debut Is Highly Likely

Ultimately, it seems somewhat unlikely that Nobody Wants This season 2 would premiere on October 27, even if it is ready by then, because the week before Halloween is typically dedicated to horror releases. However, it could very well debut in early November, as November 1 kicks off the holiday season and awards season, two periods in which the return of the show could fit very well. In fact, in the first full week of November 2024, Netflix debuted a similar title, the holiday rom-com Meet Me Next Christmas starring Christina Milian.
