One Piece Season 2 Shares First Look at Its Zoans, Confirming a Popular Fan Theory

There are a lot of outlandish scenes that Netflix is going to have to figure out for its live-action adaptation of One Piece. Given its comical nature, not everything translates well to real life when taking into account the marvelous abilities of the Devil Fruit users. However, season 2 seems to be returning to a traditional method using practical effects when introducing the newest type of Devil Fruit users, the Zoan fruit, known for their unique transformations into other creatures.

Netflix’s One Piece official account on TikTok has been taking turns between each cast member, getting their opinion on season 2 so far and what they look forward to the most. The most recent of these iterations placed Ty Keogh in the spotlight, playing the part of a guard named Dalton from Drum Island. Dalton is one of the first characters fans will get to see depicted as a Devil Fruit user with a Zoan Fruit power, able to transform into an ox and embody the characteristics associated with the animal.

Fans Predicted Zoan Fruit Users Will Look Best If Such Cinema Tricks Are Continued In Further Seasons

With the many different species Netflix will have to adapt into its live-action, fans predicted that the best way for many of these to look as good as they did in season 1 would have to be through the use of practical effects often used in older cinema. Given technology’s advancements, studios have opted for full CGI and AI over the traditional art of using makeup and craftsmanship to make such novelties come to life.

What Arlong Is In One Piece: Netflix’s Live-Action Fishmen Explained

Since Netflix’s One Piece does not explore the history and origins of Arlong’s fish-men, it is hard not to wonder who they are and what they want.

Keogh points out his mask for Dalton, claiming it’d be the one thing he would take home with him, that looks to be mid-transformation, complete with the ox horns and snout, as well as the unruly hair around its neck. Fans will likely still see some visual aftereffects edited in to make Dalton look larger next to the main case since most Zoan Devil Fruit users are much larger than the average person, depending on its type. Tony Tony Chopper may land in the same boat depending on how much the audience will get to see of him and his future various forms.

In addition to Dalton’s mask, there’s an equally terrifying old man who hovers on the shelf just behind Keogh, looking like something straight out of a Lovecraft short story. Fans have theorized that this may be one of Crocodile’s first victims since he is said to have a few scenes in season 2, though it’s unlikely that Netflix’s One Piece will get anywhere close to covering parts of Alabasta’s arc. The man does appear to be drained and dried in a characteristic fashion of someone who has been completely drained of the water in their body.
