One Piece Season 2’s Release Window Addressed By Sanji Actor After Netflix Didn’t List It For The 2025 Slate

With One Piece season 2 surprisingly absent from Netflix’s 2025 release slate, Sanji actor Taz Skylar weighs in on when the next chapter of the live-action adaptation will be released. The fantasy series is based on Eichirou Oda’s beloved manga, following the adventures of Inaki Godoy’s Monkey D. Luffy as he embarks on a quest to discover a legendary, legacy-cementing treasure. In One Piece season 1, Skylar portrays Sanji Vinsmoke, a chef at the Baratie restaurant who climbs aboard the Going Merry and becomes one of the founding members of Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates crew.

While speaking with The Direct, Skylar addressed the show’s release window in light of conflict reports. As the star also heard varying reports, he avoided giving a firm answer as to when the series would be released, stating that he did not have the insight himself. Despite this, the actor felt certain that the series would not go beyond the 2026 release window. Check out Skylar’s full response below:

“It’s a great question. I’ve heard multiple versions myself, so I’d probably be getting myself into trouble if I did say. But at the same time, I can quite honestly say I don’t think it’s clear yet, but I could again, I don’t know if I’m gonna get into trouble, but I could probably say with most confidence, it’s not further than that [2026] window.”

What Skylar’s Response Means For One Piece Season 2’s Release

Season 2 May Have A More Extensive Post-Production

A 2026 release window for One Piece season 2 lines up with the precedent set by the first season’s production. Filming on season 1 lasted between January 2022 and August 2022 for an almost eight-month shoot, with the debut ultimately released on Netflix on August 31, 2023. As such, should season 2’s post-production cycle and promotional cycle align with the first season, the sophomore installment could be released in early 2026, just over a year after production wrapped.

5 One Piece Arcs Netflix Will Have Trouble Adapting (and 5 We Can’t Wait to See)

With Netflix’s One Piece confirmed for more seasons, there are arcs in the series that Netflix might have trouble adapting for various reasons.

However, what throws uncertainty into the date could be the VFX work that would be involved in bringing the manga to screens. While Devil Fruit powers, seafaring adventures, and fish-men were brought to screens in season 1, season 2 will further build upon the fantastical world, most notably with the introduction of Chopper, a Devil Fruit-altered reindeer who would join the Straw Hats. To properly do the character justice, more time may need to be dedicated to post-production to bring Chopper to life.

Our Thoughts On One Piece Season 2’s Release Window

Netflix Has High Hopes For The Series

Beyond potential production factors, there are other reasons why One Piece is absent from Netflix’s 2025 release date. One Piece has delivered Netflix with another hit that has incredible long-term potential should it continue to meet its standards for success. The 2025 slate is already expected to see both Stranger Things and Squid Game come to a close, so the service will be keen to find its next tentpole title.
As such, One Piece season 2 receiving a 2026 release date could allow the series to act as a key draw for subscribers in the year once two of the platforms’ major hits have wrapped. However, with Skylar uncertain of the exact release window in the year, viewers should potentially brace themselves for a longer wait if required.
