Outlander star Sam Heughan shares a heartfelt message as season 8 wraps. For eight seasons, Heughan has played Jamie Fraser in the Starz time travel drama series; when the show was first announced, he was among the first stars cast. With Outlander ending with season 8, Heughan’s journey as an 18th-century Highland warrior has come to an end. While filming wrapped in September last year, some of the cast returned for reshoots and dialogue recording, including Heughan.
Heughan took to Instagram to share an emotional message as he fulfilled his final duty as Jamie Fraser. In the video, the actor was outside the studio, having just finished “the last ADR” (the re-recording of dialogue). He shared that the experience was “very emotional,” though he is excited to find out what fans think about the final season when it’s released. Outlander Season 8 Is Moving Along In Post-Production
While Outlander season 7 ended on a cliffhanger, members of the creative team have said that season 8 will tie up the various remaining plot threads for Jamie and Claire. Heughan’s reaction towards the final episode seems to indicate some surprising elements near the end. In the past, viewers have been able to get a sense of where the show is going thanks to Diana Gabaldon’s books. However, Outlander the show is expected to deviate from the source material by the end.
Outlander season 8 hasn’t received a release date, but Heughan’s comments also offer an update on post-production. Post-production for a season of high-budget television typically takes at least a year, and the projected release window currently puts the new season’s arrival around late 2025 and early 2026. With the final ADR wrapped, season 8 is moving further along down the pipeline. Heughan’s update could suggest that Outlander might receive an official release date soon.

It Will Diverge From The Books
The wait for the upcoming final season of Outlander won’t be too long. However, fans should prepare themselves for an epic ending. With the Outlander book series continuing after the show ends, there’s a lot to unpack and balance within the final 10 episodes. This makes it likely that the ending won’t be for everyone, and given Heughan’s reaction, the last episode probably consists of a shocking revelation or twist.
Gabaldon’s eighth and ninth books, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, will serve as the blueprint for the upcoming season, which means the final 10 episodes could include significant developments. However, the show will have to diverge from the books’ plot at some point to bring up the conclusion. According to the book, Jamie is expected to “die” again while fighting on the battlefield, but with his near-death experience becoming repetitive, the show could opt for a different plot. Season 8 could explore his legacy, just in time for the finale.
