Parasite Star’s New 2025 K-Drama Leaps Onto Netflix’s Global Chart

A new K-drama featuring Parasite star Choi Woo-shik has become a hit on Netflix. The streaming service has a robust international library, but some of their most popular shows and movies come from South Korea. In fact, season 1 of the dystopian thriller Squid Game is the most-watched season of any show in any language across their library, while season 2 is the third most-watched, behind Wednesday season 1. Other popular Korean content on the platform includes the zombie series All of Us Are Dead and the dark fantasy show Hellbound.

One of their latest hits brings Choi Woo-shik front and center on the small screen. Choi is probably best known for playing the Kims’ teenage son Kim Ki-woo as part of the Parasite cast. However, the star has also appeared in other popular titles from South Korea, including the zombie thriller Train to Busan (in which he portrayed baseball player Min Yong-guk), the rom-com series Our Beloved Summer (as illustrator Choi Ung), and the crime comedy A Killer Paradox (as college student Lee Tang).

Melo Movie Is A Netflix Success

It Has Had More Than 3 Million Viewers

Choi Woo-shik’s new Netflix rom-com series Melo Movie has debuted on their global chart. The show, which was written by Lee Na-eun (Our Beloved Summer) and directed by Oh Chung-hwan (The Doctors, Big Mouth), stars Choi Woo-shik as Ko Gyeom, a film enthusiast who transitions from being an extra to a critic, which puts him in the path of reluctant director Kim Mu-bee (Strong Girl Bong-soon star Park Bo-young), with whom he strikes up a romance. After they break up, they are reunited years later when they become neighbors, reigniting the sparks between them.

Melo Movie also stars Lee Jun-young (May I Help You?) and Jeon So-nee (Encounter).

Netflix has now calculated their Top 10 chart of the most-watched non-English television series for the week of February 17 through 23. Melo Movie season 1 has debuted at No. 4 on the chart with 3.2 million viewers amassing a total of 32.5 million viewing hours. It has fallen behind only the Korean children’s show Dog Days Out at No. 3, the Swedish crime series The Åre Murders at No. 2, and the German sci-fi thriller Cassandra at No. 1.

The show is in the Top 10 in 27 countries across the Americas and Asia, including Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Taiwan, though it is only No. 1 in South Korea and Indonesia.

What This Means For Melo Movie

The Show’s Longevity Is Still A Question

The fact that the Netflix K-drama debuted at No. 4 does leave some room to grow. However, Melo Movie could benefit from centering the star of Parasite, as well as the fact that it has received a solid rating of 7.2 out of 10 from users on IMDb, to become a word-of-mouth hit. Should that be the case, and it maintains a position on the chart for many weeks, potentially even rising, it could very well be renewed for season 2.
