Percy Jackson & The Olympians’ Future Beyond Season 3 Addressed By Rick Riordan

Author Rick Riordan addresses the future of Percy Jackson and the Olympians beyond season 3. The Disney+ series first premiered in late 2023, and though Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 has not yet premiered, it has already been renewed for at least one additional run. This means the show will cover Riordan’s story through the third book, The Titan’s Curse. After that, there are two more books in the original series, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian, though Riordan has continued Percy’s story through additional novels.

While responding to fan questions on Goodreads, Riordan talked about the likelihood of Percy Jackson and the Olympians making it to seasons 4 and 5. He kept his answer careful yet optimistic, as it is too soon to say anything definitive, but he feels good about the show’s progress. He also touched upon how fast seasons can be expected to be released. Check out his full answer below:

I’m guardedly optimistic about future seasons. No one knows the answer right now. It will depend on continued viewership, but we’re certainly off to a great start! All I can say for certain is that everyone involved is hoping and assuming that we will have the full five-season arc, but we’ll just have to wait and see. As for how fast they will come out, the hope is certainly that we can pick up the pace of release dates, but a season still takes a long time to create, so I’m not sure exactly what that will look like.

What This Means For Percy Jackson And The Olympians’ Future

Percy Jackson Is Off To A Very Good Start

Though television has become the go-to place for major fantasy adaptations in recent years, it does carry the threat of projects being canceled before they can tell their full story. For every smash hit like Game of Thrones, there are others that ultimately fall short of their goals, such as Netflix’s Shadow & Bone, which was axed before it was able to fully cover all of author Leigh Bardugo’s source material. As only one season of Percy Jackson has aired, it’s hard to gauge its growth, but the early signs are promising.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 was the most-watched show on Disney+ in 2024, an impressive feat considering the streamer also had Marvel and Star Wars titles. Beyond that, the early season 3 renewal is a sign of Disney’s confidence in Percy Jackson‘s future. Assuming the series doesn’t show any steep drop-off in viewership over the next two seasons, it seems very likely that The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian will also be adapted in the future. As Riordan said, it all depends on continued viewership.

Our Take On Percy Jackson’s Future

I Really Hope It Makes It

As a fan of the Percy Jackson books, I would love to see the show reach seasons 4 and 5, and I feel optimistic that it’ll get there. Season 3 is already an exciting prospect since The Titan’s Curse hasn’t yet had a screen adaptation — unlike season 2’s Sea of Monsters, which was previously made into a movie — but the idea of seeing Walker Scobell and the rest of the Percy Jackson cast complete their character arcs is one too good to pass up. Season 2 later this year will give a better indication of whether Riordan’s full story will be told.
