Poker Face Season 3 & Beyond Addressed By Showrunner After Episode 3’s Mob Twist

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Poker Face season 2, episode 3.Poker Face showrunner Tony Tost discusses a potential season 3 and the show’s future following season 2, episode 3’s mob twist. The second season of the Natasha Lyonne-headlined comedic procedural sees Charlie continue her run from the mob, but it’s not long before the past catches up to her. In episode 3, Beatrix Hasp (Rhea Perlman) returns, bringing Charlie into a hostile situation. The human lie detector helps solve the mystery behind Beatrix’s husband’s death and finally finds herself free.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Tost discusses Charlie’s future now that she doesn’t have to run anymore. The showrunner teases that season 2 is going to further explore whether Charlie can live a normal life, and the verdict will affect what her journey in season 3 and beyond looks like. Read his comments below:

I can’t speak for Rian, I can only speak on this season, though I have thoughts about where it could go, but she’s going to give it a try. She’s going to actually try to have a “normal life,” and we’ll have to see how that plays out. But she’ll get a sense that, maybe, life on the road has as many drawbacks as benefits. I think it’ll be interesting towards the end of the season to see what that looks like, if Charlie does try to kind of settle in.

What This Means For Charlie’s Future In Poker Face

It Will Explore Charlie’s Newfound Freedom Without Changing The Show Drastically

Poker Face season 2, episode 3 wraps up Charlie’s mob story with a happy ending and teases a new chapter in her life. Not on the run anymore, the episode’s ending sees Lyonne’s character contemplating settling down and blindly finding a place to go on the map. Tost’s comments point to the new challenges Charlie will face in the rest of season 2, teasing that there will be a resolution toward the end of the season.

In the same interview, Tost, who took over as showrunner for Poker Face season 2, shared that he has no interest in changing the show’s formula, which was created by Rian Johnson. Despite the third episode leaving Charlie in a position to put down roots, he would still like to “find new stories, new corners of America, new situations” to put Lyonne’s character into, which means traveling is likely still going to be a big part of the character’s life despite her newfound freedom.

Our Take On Charlie’s Future In Poker Face

Charlie Is Due For A Life Change

Since season 1, Charlie has been on the run. While sleeping in her car and taking up odd jobs aren’t exactly the ideal life, she has made a lot of friends on the journey. The Poker Face season 2 premiere further placed her in fascinating situations, where she helped the FBI sniff out a rat, solved a perfect crime, and unveiled the mystery of a quintuplet.

For the show’s sake, Charlie needs to stay on the road, but without a mark on her back, she can move from place to place at her own pace. On the other hand, trying to settle into a new place also qualifies as something new for the titular character, who has been on the road for a long time. There are a lot of situations that Poker Face could place Charlie in without having her go back on the road again.

The first three episodes of Poker Face season 2 are now streaming on Peacock, with new episodes airing Thursdays.
