A popular Tim Allen sitcom is coming to Netflix
for the first time. Allen will soon be returning to the world of multi-cam comedies, as he’ll star opposite Kat Dennings in the upcoming show Shifting Gears. The story centers on Matt (played by Allen), the stubborn and widowed owner of a car restoration shop who gets to reconnect with his daughter Riley (WandaVision and 2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings) and his grandchildren when he reluctantly allows her to move back in. It will premiere on ABC on January 8 at 8 PM ET and stream the next day on Hulu.
Hailing from showrunner Michelle Nader, the cast also includes Seann William Scot, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis, with Brenda Song in a guest role. The project has received a lot of attention thanks to Allen’s long history with family sitcoms, which goes back decades. His most enduring sitcom will be making its way to Netflix in just a matter of weeks.
Home Improvement Is Coming To Netflix
It’ll Arrive In February
Home Improvement will soon stream on Netflix for the first time. Running on ABC from September 1991 to May 1999, for a total of eight seasons and 204 episodes, Home Improvement was created by the trio of Carmen Finestra, David McFadzean, and Matt Williams. The story focused on the Taylor Family, led by television host Tim Taylor (Allen) and his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson). The plots often focused on how the married couple raised their three sons, while also looking at Taylor’s popular show “Tool Time.”

- ’90’s shows
What’s On Netflix gives word that all eight seasons of Home Improvement will be coming to Netflix U.S. for the first time on February 1. This is part of a deal, announced back in 2022, where a handful of Disney-owned shows would be making their way to Netflix. The deal has already included hit dramas like LOST and This Is Us.
The cast of Home Improvement also included Earl Hindman, Taran Noah Smith, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Zachery Ty Bryan, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning. With recurring and guest actors such as Pamela Anderson, Vicki Lewis, and Boy Meets World alum Betsy Randle, the comedy was largely a miss with critics. But it was one of the more consistently popular shows of its decade.
Should You Watch Home Improvement?
The Number Of Episodes Are A Plus
Home Improvement has one big advantage over other series, which is that it has over 200 episodes. If you are hoping to have a comfort show to add to your rotation, whether you’ve seen it before or haven’t, it’s worth seeking out a few episodes at random. It is a solid example of a fun show that is nice to unwind to over the course of a few months.
