Psych & Monk’s Futures Get Hopeful Update After Their Streaming Movies

The future of the Psych and Monk universes receives a hopeful update from the NBC network. Running from 2006 to 2014, Psych follows Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and his childhood best friend Gus (Dule Hill) as they open up a psychic detective business to help the Santa Barbara Police Department solve cases. Monk, which ran from 2002 to 2009, is a police procedural comedy drama that follows former homicide detective Adrianne Monk (Tony Shalhoub) as he continues to solve crime.

According to Deadline‘s report about a Royal Pains reboot, there have been discussions about further exploring the Psych and Monk universes. These discussions are taking place following the streaming successes of Peacock’s Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, Psych 3: This Is Gus, and Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie. It is unconfirmed at this time whether that means more movies, another series, or a different storytelling approach.

Monk And Psych Reboots Might Continue

Released in 2023, the darker Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie sees the fan-favorite detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder returning to what he does best by solving a very personal case after his stepdaughter Molly’s fiancé died in an accident. Not only does the movie feature the return of many original cast members, but it has a very high fan satisfaction rate, with many praising it as an extended episode of the beloved TV show. Shaulhoub previously teased that creator Andy Beckman was interested in exploring another chapter.

The update is definitely good news for Psych fans, who have been waiting for a fourth movie. With the resurgence of interest in popular shows from the 2000s, reboots are happening, which means Psych 4 might finally receive a green light after being teased for so long.

Another Monk movie also sounds like a treat for fans. Even eight seasons and one movie later, it still feels like there’s always room for more of Tony Shalhoub’s detective. Both Monk and Psych have successfully created interesting characters that fans have been investing in for years, and a formula of really great storytelling that makes every episode and project full of surprises and fun. Hopefully, there will be more good news coming soon.
