Reacher’s Ultimate Fate After Series Ending Addressed By Alan Ritchson

Reacher

star Alan Ritchson addresses what his character’s fate will be when the series eventually ends. Based on the book series by Lee Child, the hit Prime Video series premiered in 2022, introducing Ritchson as Jack Reacher, a former military politce officer who travels the U.S. and foils various criminal conspiracies. Reacher season 3 will bring the series back this week and season 4 has already been confirmed, but what awaits Ritchson’s character beyond that remains a mystery.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Ritchson shares his thoughts about how Reacher will end and whether the title character will ever settle down and embrace a normal life. While the actor does tease that a future season could more fully explore a serious Reacher relationship, he does stress that it’s just not in the character’s DNA to put down roots. Check out Ritchson’s comment below:

“I think, you know, I guess we’ll have to see. He’s a wanderer. There are some books where you really get the sense that he’s fallen in love with somebody. And so I think there may be a time to kind of explore that side of things. But for now, I think we’re going to continue to honor the fact that Reacher really is a lone wolf.”

How Many More Reacher Seasons Will There Be?

With the release of season 2 last year, Reacher was cemented as one of the most viewed Prime Video shows of all time. It was the show’s immense popularity that led to the streamer greenlighting two more seasons instead of the usual one-season renewal. With the new season set to be a viewership hit following the Reacher season 2 finale, it’s entirely possible that a season 5 renewal will get the go-ahead as well in the near future.

Compared to something like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher is relatively cheap and easy to make, and Amazon executive Jennifer Salke told THR last April that there’s “no end in sight” for the show. Ritchson, too, has been enthusiastic about sticking with Reacher for as long as possible, saying that he wants to “to explore as many of these books as my body will allow.” Whether Reacher eventually settles down, then, probably won’t be a question that will be answered for years to come.

Our Take On Reacher Potentially Settling Down

The Character’s Lone Wolf Personality Is Part Of His Appeal

There are 29 books in Child’s Jack Reacher series, meaning there’s plenty of material for the Prime Video show to adapt. It’s very unlikely that all of these books will get turned into seasons, but audience interest in the show and in the character seems to be high, suggesting a good chunk of them could. So far, Reacher hasn’t really settled down for good in any of these books, and it’s part of the character’s charm that he moves from town to town solving problems and then moving on.

Reacher season 3 adapts the events of Pursuader, while season 2 adapts Bad Luck and Trouble and season 1 adapts Killing Floor.

It’s possible that the final season of Reacher will see the character putting down some roots, but this would be to go against a core part of the character. The best ending for Ritchson’s iteration could be watching him get back on a bus and moving on. It remains to be seen how Reacher will conclude, but there will evidently be many more seasons before that eventually happens.
