Leverage: Redemption star Beth Riesgraf has teased that season 3 of the show will explore her character Parker’s backstory in more detail, and there will even be epic Parker-focused episodes to come. The action crime drama debuted on Freevee in 2021 as a revival of Leverage, which aired from 2008-12, and features most of the core cast members reprising their roles. The series focuses on a team of criminals who use their skills to carry out heists whilst fighting corporate injustices and helping those in need. Leverage: Redemption season 3 will debut April 17 on Prime Video.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Riesgraf discusses how her character will be shaped across the season. She details the need for the revival to cater to those who had never seen Leverage while also keeping legacy fans satisfied. She reveals how she engaged in conversations about Parker’s character direction and teases an upcoming episode that will see her face an existential dilemma, also suggesting that “Parker fans are going to love it.” Check out Riesgraf’s full comments below:
Yeah, that’s a great question. I think with the revival, there was a lot of organizing of, “Okay, what is this version of the show, and where are we starting for people who’ve never seen it before? Where are we going to go for those guys, and where do we take these characters that are so beloved by the people who’ve been there since the beginning?” So, I think with Parker, I have had those conversations, and there’s a really great episode at the end of the season.
I don’t think you’ve seen it yet, because it’s gonna answer some of this for you. There’s a really great moment for Parker, it’s actually an entire episode, where she is at the intersection of, “Why am I doing this?” and, “What’s the ethical way? Why am I doing that, or why don’t I just go all the way? Why am I restraining this instinct I have to be really dangerous?” It’s a great moment, Parker fans are going to love it, and you’ll see what she ends up doing with that.
But it was important to me, in general, not to lose the essence of who she is, you know, the adrenaline junkie and the quirk. The fun is there and amazing, but also letting her evolve from the place she started. She’s someone who was very damaged and grew up without anyone to trust or love or feel safe with, so now that she’s got this [group], she doesn’t overthink it. She doesn’t place parameters, she just knows what she’s supposed to do and just does it and doesn’t second guess it.
So, the interesting thing about her backstory, I would love to explore more of it and get in there, but when you’re balancing all the arcs and everything, I think it’s a balancing act. But you’re going to get to see some cool stuff that really brings out some of that backstory. I don’t want to spoil it for you.
What This Means For Parker’s Story Arc
The Show Could Shine More Of A Light On Her Fraught Backstory
Parker is a character who has had a troubled past, though much of her backstory has remained unexplored. She remains a fun and unpredictable character, but due to her newfound responsibility as The Mastermind, following Nate’s retirement in the Leverage finale, she may be forced to question her approach to jobs moving forward. Riesgraf’s comments suggest that the new season will look at different elements of Parker’s backstory, and how they relate to her journey right now.
