Resurrection Casts Jessica Jones Star Krysten Ritter For A Major Guest Arc

Dexter: Resurrection adds Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter in a guest role. The new drama series, which picks up after Dexter: New Blood‘s story, sees Michael C. Hall reprising his role as the titular serial killer, Dexter Morgan, after he’s brought back to life. The new series is set to arrive in June and will feature many returning characters, including series veteran David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan.

According to Deadline, Ritter has a high-profile guest arc on Showtime’s new drama series as Mia Lapierre, a renowned wine steward, who “may be hiding a serial killer secret.” The series is also expected to kickstart a new chapter for Hall’s Morgan with star-studded new cast members. Uma Thurman will star as Charley, who works as security for Peter Dinklage’s villainous character Leon Prater.

What This Means For Dexter: Resurrection

A New Female Killer And A New Era For Dexter

As seen in Ritter’s best roles, she is no stranger to playing complicated characters with certain contradictions. Best known for playing the Marvel anti-hero Jessica Jones in the series of the same name, the actor brings a troubled hero who has to make tough choices while battling with PTSD. In Breaking Bad, she played Jesse Pinkman’s drug-addicted girlfriend, whose death serves as a turning point for Jess’s relationship with his business partner, Walter White. Her role as Mia Lapierre in Dexter: Resurrection seems to tap into the dark and troubled space, with Mia Lapierre having a serial killer alter ego.

The Dexter franchise has grown to include four different shows – with a fifth on the way – in 20 years, but only one of them can be called the best.

It’s unclear how everything will be pieced together. However, the latest spinoff, Dexter: Original Sin, which takes place right before Dexter’s first kill, sees the serial killer being rushed to the hospital in the premiere. In a previous interview, creator Clyde Phillips explained that they were able to stop Dexter from dying after taking a bullet in the chest because it happened in “zero-degree weather.” The resurrected Dexter would likely have a brand-new mindset in Dexter: Resurrection‘s story after experiencing life flashing before his eyes.

Female serial killers are rare in the original Dexter series, but when they appear, they tend to be romantically involved with Dexter and be in the main storyline. Given that Ritter has a recurring role, it’s very likely that she’ll be someone important. Mia Lapierre also sounds like a female counterpart to Dexter, having a dark passenger and an innocent side at the same time.

It also sounds like the show cast the perfect actor for the job. Ritter is known for bringing contrasts and a lot of heart to her roles, including the less likable ones. Female killers in the Dexter original series are not widely liked. From Lumen to Lila, they are more controversial than lovable, but having Ritter tackle a dark female role in Dexter: Resurrection could potentially put an end to the trend.
