Cyrus Broacha on India’s Got Latent row

On the stage, Cyrus said, “In India, two words have been overused—’Parampara’ and ‘Sanskriti.’ Your tradition, my tradition, and your morality, my morality, can be different…How many of you have consumed porn? Okay, let’s put it this way, how many of you have not consumed porn? When all the crimes are available on the internet, then how bad is this?”

The comedian criticised the legal cases against Samay and Ranveer, saying it was an overkill. “This is a roast show. People talk like this. It is a copy of Tony Hinchcliffe’s show Kill Tony. Many people will know it. I don’t think they should be treated like common criminals or have their careers stopped,” he said.

The India’s Got Latent controversy

India’s Got Latent is a show created by comedian Samay Raina. On the most recent episode, podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, who was a guest, made a joke about parents having sex, which received widespread backlash. Multiple FIRs were filed against the two and other panellists on the show. Samay eventually deleted all the show episodes from YouTube. The Supreme Court also raped Ranveer for his statements and seized his passport, as the case is under investigation.

On Friday night, Samay took to his channel and shared a post with two emojis for just ‘Members Only’. The post had a heart emoji followed by a hug emoji, usually used to denote solidarity or togetherness. The post was shared for just paid subscribers of the channel and had no video accompanying it.
