Shifting Gears season 2 might introduce one character that hasn’t been seen yet but is still important, reveals executive producer Michelle Nader. The biggest idea tying the characters of Shifting Gears together is family, with the most obvious connection being Matt (Tim Allen) taking his daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), and her children into his home. So far, the biggest character with familial connections to appear has been Jimmy (Lucas Neff), who is still trying to win back his ex-wife’s affections despite her decision to divorce him in the season finale.
Speaking with TVLine, however, Nader confirmed plans for Shifting Gears season 2 to introduce Sam, Matt’s son and Riley’s brother, who’s been mentioned throughout the sitcom. The executive producer explained what role he would have in the series, including what his interactions with his family and those around him would be like. Meanwhile, Matt discovers his business rival, Eve (Jenna Elfman), actually has feelings for him, kissing him in the season finale.
