A horror show from Shudder will be getting a second season. Shudder is a subscription streaming service that is owned and operated by AMC Networks and has a focus on horror and cult movies and television shows. Since it launched in 2015, the service has offered a curated library of titles that ranges from recent releases including Le Vourdalak and The Exorcism to genre classics such as My Bloody Valentine and The Wolf Man and international titles including Tenebrae and Demons.
Shortly after it launched, Shudder began to produce and distribute original content in addition to its library of licensed titles. Over the years, they have brought many movies to the service including Tigers Are Not Afraid, every movie in the V/H/S franchise since 2021’s V/H/S/94, and Revenge, which was the debut feature of Oscar-nominated The Substance director Coralie Fargeat. They have also dabbled in episodic television with shows including the docuseries Cursed Films and the later seasons of the reality competition show The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula.
The Creep Tapes Season 1 Will Not Be The End
The Creep Tapes will return. The 2024 found footage horror series is a spinoff from the film franchise of the same name, which was spearheaded by star Mark Duplass and follows a serial killer, sometimes known as “Peachfuzz,” who uses a videography job to lure his victims, whose lives he can then take over. The new show kicked off with a season where each of the six episodes presented a different tape following one of the killer’s victims. The Creep Tapes cast includes Duplass, Mike Luciano, David Nordstrom, Josh Fadem, and Heart Eyes director Josh Ruben.
The Creep Tapes season 1 has a Fresh score of 75% on Rotten Tomaotes.
Per Deadline, The Creep Tapes has officially been renewed for season 2 following the success of its debut season, which was Shudder’s most-watched show ever on AMC+. The new season is set to premiere on Shudder and AMC+ in 2025. This news comes just under two months after the season 1 finale aired on December 13, 2024. Below, read statements on the renewal from Duplass, his co-writer and co-executive producer Patrick Brice, and AMC Networks EVP of streaming Courtney Thomasma:
Mark Duplass: We made the first season of The Creep Tapes completely independently, so we were able to truly and unabashedly get our freak on. The fact that so many of you watched it that Shudder not only asked us for more but asked us to go even further this time around? That’s just… really, really unsettling. And terrifically exciting.
Patrick Brice: We are beyond delighted at the opportunity to bring audiences fresh kills from the closet in a second season of The Creep Tapes! For the series to have found such a rabid audience at Shudder is an absolute dream. It seems ridiculous to apply the term “labor of love” to such an insane franchise, but it’s the truth. We can’t wait to dive back in.
Courtney Thomasma: We can’t wait to see where Mark and Patrick will take this story next as we continue to grow this fan-favorite franchise across both Shudder and AMC+. We’re already preparing ourselves for more psychological discomfort as a new season’s worth of devious and wonderfully weird Peachfuzz antics unfold.
What This Means For The Creep Tapes
Its Longevity Is Already Special
By earning a season 2 renewal, The Creep Tapes has entered rarefied air for horror shows on Shudder. Only a few of their scripted originals have so far extended beyond a single season. While their anthology series Creepshow ran for four seasons, the Duplass show enters the next-highest tier, tying with Missions and the Slasher continuation as the second longest-running scripted original series on the platform with two seasons. If season 2 manages to capture the same audience as season 1, the show could quickly surge ahead with more renewals and break new ground for the streamer.
