The stars of Leverage: Redemption have revealed that they know Sophie’s biggest secret and that the show secretly revealed it years ago. The show is a revival of the hit TNT action crime-drama series Leverage, which aired from 2008-12, and starred Christian Kane, Gina Bellman, Beth Riesgraf, Aldis Hodge, and Timothy Hutton. Leverage: Redemption debuted on Freevee in July 2021, and saw most of the main cast (besides Hutton) reprise their roles as a team of criminals conducting cons whilst fighting against corporate injustices. Bellman’s Sophie Devereaux is a Brit with a mysterious past and plenty of secrets.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns, Bellman and Kane talked about Sophie’s biggest secret – her real name. They revealed that the cast members of the show know Sophie’s real name and that the show contained a couple of nods and Easter Eggs over the seasons that eagle-eyed viewers may have picked up on. They reveal two instances during which the show secretly hints at her name, and Bellman reveals that some people have worked it out. Check out the exchange below:
Bellman: I know what it is!
Kane: We know what it is.
Bellman: There was one episode where I typed it into a key code, and some people have guessed what it was. And then there was another time where I wrote it in a note [for Nate]. There were two Easter eggs in there, and some people have got it.
Kane: She wrote it once on a piece of paper for Tim, or for Nate, that was his Christmas present, and that was real. We all had to dive over the bar just to [get it]. She wadded it up and threw it away. [Chuckles]

The Show Could Continue To Hint And Touch On Character Backstories
Leverage: Redemption season 3 is set to release April 17, and with the show now moved to Prime Video, there is a larger streaming audience and a bigger scope for the show to explore its characters and drop more hints. While neither Leverage nor Redemption explicitly reveals Sophie’s real name, the fact that the shows are dropping hints suggests that this is a factor that might come into play later down the line. Sophie has a long history of using aliases, and, though the characters in the show know her real name, it’s never been revealed to viewers.
While it would be cool to find out Sophie’s real name, it would ultimately make her character less interesting.
The instances that Bellman and Kane point to might prompt some fans of the show to go back and watch the episodes and see if they can pick up on what her name is. Sophie’s real name is never stated on the show, however, a Tweet from Bellman from 2012 revealed the character’s true name to be ‘Lara.’ Whether this is accurate or not remains unclear, and it feels unlikely the show will reveal this information; it is more likely to hint at it.

While it would be cool to find out Sophie’s real name, it would ultimately make her character less interesting. Throughout the show, Sophie assumes many different identities and sometimes enters into relationships as part of her role in the group. One of the best Leverage relationships was Sophie’s coupling with her now-deceased husband Nate, and this has been a core part of her character growth. While audiences may never learn her real name, her importance to Leverage: Redemption and role as the head of the group make her an intriguing and compelling character.
