Station 19’s Maya Actor Comments On Potential Franchise Return In Grey’s Anatomy: “Never Say Never”

Station 19‘s Maya actor Danielle Savre has commented on a potential franchise return in Grey’s Anatomy, explaining the possibility of coming back. Station 19‘s series finale offered bookends to many character story arcs, including Maya Bishop, a Captain on the team whose wife is Dr. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato). Carina is an OB/GYN Attending at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, one of many connective elements between the two shows. While neither character has appeared since their spinoff ended, the possibility remains open that either of them could show up in the ongoing medical series.

Speaking with ScreenRant about her role on the NBC procedural drama Found, Savre said she would never rule out returning as Maya despite Station 19 being over. The actor addressed how the ending of the series still allows room for her character to return, still doing her job and potentially able to interact with Grey’s Anatomy characters in the process. Check out what Savre had to say below:

ScreenRant: Even with the flash-forwards showing your character’s happy future, do you feel there’s room for you to pop up on Grey’s Anatomy? Or have you closed the book on Maya?

Danielle Savre: Never will I close the book on Maya Bishop or Station 19. She meant so much to me that I will gladly say yes to Grey’s Anatomy if they ever want a little snippet of Maya Bishop. We were just cracking jokes the other day, like, “What if she just pulls up in the ambulance to drop off a patient?” I was like, “I would happily show up for one word, one scene, or just literally a background walk on Grace Anatomy, if that meant getting to revive Maya for the world, for that entire universe.”

ScreenRant: That’s kind of the implication of the ending, right? She’s there, she’s the boss, and she’s just going to do it until the wheels fall off.

Danielle Savre: Yeah. And I would. There are so many things I would love. But I mean, they have 17 series regulars, so bringing over Maya for a significant role on Grey’s would be highly unlikely, but I never say never. I definitely would love to just come over there, just to say “hi” and to play with the whole Shondaland family.

What Savre’s Statement Means For Maya’s Future In Grey’s Anatomy

There’s A Precedent For The Station 19 Character To Return

While Station 19 was airing, various characters would cross over onto its parent show, with Savre reprising her role as Maya on the series in a recurring role starting in 2020. She could still show up at Grey Sloan Memorial, potentially making a cameo appearance in an episode focusing on her future after the original series. Carina could also show up, since she’s still working there, even if she hasn’t made an appearance in quite some time. This opens the door for other Station 19 cast members to show up, but isn’t the only precedent for the Captain’s return.

Station 19, the second major Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, had a strong 7-season run. With just over 100 episodes, the series had some worth skipping.

But the strongest potential for Maya’s return comes from Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George), who was a main character from the beginning of Station 19, all the way to season 7. At the end of the series, he wound up going back to work at Grey Sloan Memorial, something depicted in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, where he now serves as a main character. While this doesn’t mean Savre’s return would make her a lead character, her interest coupled with the show’s willingness to bring back characters makes it highly possible for her to return.

Jason George’s Ben Warren was a main cast member during Grey’s Anatomy seasons 12 through 14 before he became one of the leads on Station 19.

Our Take On Maya’s Possible Return In Grey’s Anatomy

It’s Unclear How Or When She Would Come Back

Although it’s still not guaranteed Maya will come back in Grey’s Anatomy, Savre’s enthusiasm about the idea means it’s very possible to happen in the future. We’d be interested in catching up with her character, learning about how her job, marriage with Carina, and overall life has been since Station 19 ended. Perhaps this can help bring other characters into the fold, revealing more about what they’ve been doing since the series finale.
