Stephen King Fantasy Series Getting Sequel Novel Over 20 Years Later & Ahead Of Long-Gestating Adaptation

Stephen King is writing a sequel to Black House. The Talisman and its sequel, Black House, were co-written by Peter Straub, and respectively published in 1984 and 2001. Straub later passed away in 2022. In 2024, Stephen King teased a new story, sharing on X/Twitter that he was back in Mid-World…and the Territories.” With Mid-World being from The Dark Tower books and the Territories being a fantastical universe from The Talisman books, it was unclear whether the upcoming story would be more connected to The Dark Tower or The Talisman.

On Threads, King has now confirmed that he is writing a third Talisman novel. He revealed that “Straub had a terrific idea before passing away” about how to continue The Talisman series. King is now writing a sequel based on this idea and shared that Straub will be given co-author credit, just as with The Talisman and Black House. He also emphasized that the third Talisman book “has a long way to go.” When asked if he is channeling his inner Straub for the novel, he replied, “Absolutely.” Check out King’s posts below:

There Are Now Plenty Of Talisman Stories To Look Forward To

King is a prolific author who has numerous releases on the way, but the third Talisman book is now the most exciting of his upcoming releases. This is not the only upcoming Talisman story to look forward to, as a Talisman televion series adaptation was announced in 2021 and is still in development with Steven Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Entertainment, and Stranger Things‘ the Duffer Brothers. With the final season of the Duffers’ hit Netflix series, Stranger Things season 5, now in post-production, there will hopefully be forward movement on The Talisman television series soon.

The Talisman fans now have a third book and a television adaptation to look forward to in the coming years. Even though King says the third Talisman book “has a long way to go,” there is a good chance that it will release sooner than the television series. King usually publishes more than one book per year and is intently focused on the third Talisman book and doing Straub’s sequel idea justice. Meanwhile, the Talisman show continues to be a long-gestating project that has not made much progress since it was announced in 2021.

Our Take On A Third Talisman Book

It Continues A Stephen King Trend

Writing a third Talisman book more than 20 years after Black House is not the first time King has written a sequel decades later. In 2013, he published Doctor Sleep, a sequel to The Shining, 36 years after the iconic horror novel was published. He also published the eight main Dark Tower books between 1982 and 2004, and then in 2012 published The Wind Through the Keyhole, which begins in the middle of the series. Just like with Doctor Sleep and The Dark Tower, the third Talisman book will undoubtedly be another great Stephen King story and worth the wait.
