Stranger Things star Noah Schanpp, who plays Will Byers, has revealed that season 5 will leave viewers “devastated,” offering a warning about the ending of the series. Stranger Things season 5 is expected to arrive in 2025, ending one of Netflix’s most popular original series on their platform. Filming took place throughout 2024, and while a release date hasn’t been revealed yet, the shows’ final episodes are currently in post-production. As of writing, it’s unclear how the eight-episode season will play out, and what it means for the series’ many beloved characters.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter during the Broadway opening for Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Schnapp revealed that Stranger Things season 5 will leave viewers “devastated.“ The actor explained how the final season will no doubt make those who watch it cry, teasing just how good the last episodes are. Noah Schnapp: People are going to be truly devastated. As sad as it was, I’m so excited to see the world’s reaction to watching the finale because there’s not going to be a dry eye, it’s going to be sad. Not to be so negative, it is a really great season and people will love it.
Ross Duffer: It’s the end of a long journey, for everyone who made the show and also for those characters. It is thrilling and it’s our fastest start we’ve ever had — our heroes are in action right away, but I think ultimately, hopefully, it’s our most emotional season yet. Those final episodes, the goal is that they hit pretty hard because in a lot of ways it’s about the end of this journey we’ve all had and also the end of childhood.

The major characters in Stranger Things are up against the most difficult battle of their lives, as Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) has opened a rift between Hawkins and the Upside Down. Based on Schnapp’s statement, though, it doesn’t sound like it will result in a happy ending for everyone, teasing the events are going to be highly emotional for those heavily invested in the show.
